Should defenders be infront of the attacker or behind in corners? I see defenders (red) are always infront

If you play this formation it is critical that your holding midfielder be fast and have a lot of courage, otherwise there is a high probability you will lose the midfield and there also can be confusion at the back...I have found that because kids like to get forward, I play a 1-2-2-1 so kids feel more comfortable getting forward but understand they need to get back. Also with one clear last back, there is less risk of confusion and I also have a designated person to communicate from the back.

Certainly wouldn't call this a Masterclass. Some of the most basics exercises known to man. Not that it needs to be complicated but these players weren't challenged.

So how would you run the 4v4v4? All players active?
@jackpn212 жыл бұрын
Yes, I would have all players active for 4v4v4 - often good to start with 4v4+4 - where 4 neutrals are on the 4 sides of the box, giving a little more space to the central players. Best wishes

Really love this video and the way it is presented. As a relatively in-experienced coach I am always looking to learn and better my coaching. Its put into terms that coaches of all levels can understand-so well done mate! What would you suggest the distance between the back four defenders should be when they are on the edge of the box -as a general guide? Keep it up and I look forward to watching the other videos you have made.
@jackpn212 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! Appreciated! In terms of distances, it's hard to give precise distances as there are many variables to consider - such as the strengths of your defenders, their ability to read the game and their mobility. Also, what the opponent is doing to attack - are they looking for gaps between CBs and FBs or are they playing wide early? One visual pointer can be when one FB is pressurising an opponent on the wing, the other FB would be tucked in to around the back post area. If your defence are on the edge of their box, it means the opponents are around shooting range - so when the ball is central for them, you'd likely have all your defenders well within the width of the penalty box. Like I say though, difficult to be hard and fast on this. Best wishes

Yes, he explains that at around 2:10. It basically becomes a 3-2-1 at that point.

Excellent video, Jack, about to head to conduct a personal session and then one with my current team. U17 girls. My struggle is that some of the girls never developed the proper touch and pass through the ranks and at 15 -16 not sure if there is a away to develop this. Any suggestions? how about a video on those who stepped away from the game a bit and came back? All the best!

Hi, thanks for the message. It's difficult when you have players who haven't had the basics of passing and control ingrained through their formative years. Young kids soak info up like a sponge, but as they get older, new foundations are difficult to get across. Even with my open age side now, I still regularly drill them on the basics of passing and control. Yeah we do lots of tactical work, but technical basics are part of every session - usually straight after the warm up. And any physical work we do, also incorporates ball work. Best wishes with it

@@jackpn21 Hi thanks! Another question, if you had more players, in your opinion, would you add to that line or just rotate them in. I'm trying to think of other areas I might be able to play them as well in the same drill if they weren't on the line of 4 (which I'm debating if I would want to add there).
@jackpn212 жыл бұрын
@@rvlife5103 Hi, I think it would depend on your formation and what you want to focus on. We were focussing on a midfield 4 actually so I was happy with 4. There's also a matter of adapting the practice to your anticipated turn out. You could 2 players either side of the lines, the team in possession, and add defenders between them at each end if wanted.

Thanks for the video, really interesting to see the many tactical decisions spelled out like that. I have a question though, I'm a twenty-one year old amateur player, usually left back, and average in height and I find defending corners such a mess. I have trouble reacting properly to the situations just before the kick comes. Now when it has come, and the ball is not in our net, I usually know what to do. But the headers and feigned runs from attackers give me a head ache, how do I improve this?
@woodsylovesabarby Жыл бұрын
As a goalkeeper, I’d say if you’re man marking, it can be difficult so the best thing you can do is face the striker face on and focus more on him than the ball. If you’re zonal marking, just block out the runs of the strikers and go to meet the ball if it’s crossed into your area of the box
