Unfortunately and as you point out toxicity is a part of social media. This time someone took an unwarranted (IMO) reaction to one of your presentations. All your videos are so well structured and logical, you contribute so much to this great sport. My wife is a Patreon and your tuition has been amazing. Her confidence and base skill level has revolutionised her riding. A recent two week MTB holiday was amazing and that is because of your knowledge, thank you and please let this recent negativity be water off a duck back.

You have every right to ban the people placing comments like these. That said, keep in mind that no happy or succesful person posts hateful comments. Almost without exception it’s frustrated/talentless young men whose fragile egos can’t handle being taught how to ride by a woman, or watching them perform at hardline or rampage. This might be easy from a male perspective but I personally find these guys too pathetic to be insulted by them. Just a thought.

This was honestly a little confusing for me. You talk about both extending against the compression but also absorbing the bump. This sounds contradictory because aren’t bump and compression the same thing? I think compression is jargon which a beginner won’t understand. I hope this is constructive. Visuals are great though

WHY learn to pump in the first place?? Well: The reason why some riders WHIZZ OFF on almost flat trails 🚀 , while others seem sluggish on the SAME TRAIL 🐌 … is PUMPING! Pumping (used to generate speed without pedaling) is one of THE most underrated skills to help you graduate from being an „okay“ rider to an „awesome“ rider! Here is some additional important info: WHERE is the compression?
It’s directly BEFORE the bump. ⏩️ That’s where you need to BRACE against the forces by standing up 🔂 Then, shortly after, you need to BEND your legs and arms to absorb the bump ➡️ This will allow you to EXTEND against the next compression again. 🔄 Extend and bend. 🔄 Repeat. The result: You’ll generate speed and improve your - Coordination - Quick Strength - Endurance - Efficiency I have detailed tutorial with precise steps on how to pump with more common errors linked below 👇 Found this helpful? Let me know 🥰😍 and SAVE it for later! Full Tutorial: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6DcfaeMo52UadUsi=KmWr6UyiDczUKiip

Well done, Kathryn, looking forward to hearing about your progress! I run tubeless on all my mtbs and emtbs 😊 Pros: less punctures, you can run less pressure (more grip), often also less weight and less rolling resistance Cons: a little harder to fix if you have a cut in the tire, may be a little more expensive Hope to work with you with my FUNdamentals course (and other courses) soon - finding the right moves for your body, your bike and your strength/height/etc is THE game changer, and that's what my personal feedback is for 😊 Roxy

Roxy, I got a combination of tips 1 & 2 last season and it changed my riding drastically and immediately (literally). I went around to all the prolonged steep loose sections on my local black trails I used to avoid, and shockingly did them in control with no skidding. My excitement was quickly joined by a tinge of resentment…because WHY is this bad advice so prevalent out there? #1, I could have progressed and been more confident sooner. When I mentioned to a coach that on steeps I start to skid, the focus became on “getting used to the feeling of skidding” which is fine and dandy too, but with 90% front braking skidding can be all but eliminated making intricate chutes easier to be precise on. And #2, with everyone yelling at me to “get back!” No, further BACK!” “No really graze that back tire!!!” (Along with more back brake) it is now a bad habbit that keeps rearing its ugly head despite my revelation of how to do it correctly. So….do you have any theories as to why so many better riders fail to steer us the right way earlier on?

"Is it a coincidence that most Nobel Prize winners are male?" I don't think so. It's more likely because far more men are interested in Science. Women are typically more interested in the humanities etc. That is why the majority of woman are novelists. There are outliers like the two you mention, and that is very unfortunate. Your comment in the video regarding men being angry isn't due to them being displaced in the workplace. It's the forced acceptance of physical equality and emasculation of men. This obviously denies biological fact which is again why the vast majority of construction workers, firefighters, armed forces etc where physical strength is an advantage. Woman are also far more able at caring and counseling roles that require empathy. I also agree with you that many woman are vastly better riders than the average men. But denying that there aren't fundamental physical difference between the sexes is denying biology. Interestingly, somewhere in Sweden actually tried an absolute equality across all professions and in household, childcare roles etc and there was a rejection by the majority of women back to more traditional roles. I have a daughter and I want her to do whatever the hell she wants in life without sex restriction but we still have to consider human evolutionary biology. It's vastly more reliable than cultural changes in society. I think what I'm trying to say is most men simply love women and to some level feel like they have a protective roll towards them at a societal level, especially in the west. I don't believe hard-edged third wave feminist thinking that rejects that is a very good idea at a societal level. That doesn't mean I don't for one second want women to not be independent, quite the opposite, But I want men to care when a woman is being physically abused. Because, as a man, I know how violent men can be. Ultimately maybe men aren't as intelligent on average and women but if that is the case women should be able to finesse this situation and nurture the caring aspect I mentioned to the betterment of society as a whole.

I'm genuinely curious if some of the comments are a manifestation of "extinction burst" where a negative behavior gets worse before it gets replaced by the desired behavior. As more women ride (excel in all areas not just mtb), have fun ALONG SIDE men on the trails, progress, have MTB YT channels, etc., etc., I wonder if the misogynistic trolling behavior (by men, for the sake of this argument) gets worse / more intense before it goes away. We women are ADDING to our world, not taking away from a male's experiences. I am just thinking out loud here as I recall some of my veterinary school education for counseling pet owners on behavior problems in dogs and cats. Plus, I wonder if some commenters want to outdo each other in the "Attention-seeking Atrocious Comment Department" competing for their 15 milliseconds of YT fame, instead of commenting more constructively. I am speaking from a human behavior point of view, not as a man-hater. -- signed, a married-for-42-yrs-to -the-same-man, one cat-owning woman MTBr.

My daughter is a young mechanical engineer in a large company . She is a manager and the majority of engineers are men . I asked her does she get any pushback from the men from her men on her team or in the company and she she says no. She may actually gain an advantage because she is a female . I had a plane flight last week and the majority of flight attendants were male and the attendant in charge was female which use to be dominated by females . Back in flying early days attendants were promoted a sex symbols and those days care long gone from what I see . You also see many male nurses today that was dominated by females in the past. Now you see more female doctors . So females are acquiring more positions of authority . A great comparison of your discussion is the US presidential election with a old male who would like to take the country back to the good old days going against a female who like to the future . The male gets large support and even amongst females . You can't stop change but for many it's to much to handle so they lash out . Now it's not as bad as it's let out to believe as you suggested the negative stuff isn't as large as it is thought to be . Humans have a tendency to enjoy calamity . I think the reason for that it makes there lives look a bit better in comparison. Humans are competitive . It's a evolution equation of survival .

I just want to ride without getting seriously hurt. Paper or certificate? I don't need one, just the knowledge and the motor memory. I have a regular bike and what i call a squishy bike. The squishy bike has benefits but i do feel a slight loss of energy to the squish. I tend to lock out the rear going uphill or set it to half squish. It does have DW link suspention which is nice. I like Laguna Seca ot Fort Ord which is fairly straightforward. Here and there are some small gullies washed out due to rain. They are a bother. I am thinking of getting knee pads but I am not sure. I have fallen a few times but so far i just had to dust myself off. Anyway I carry a small medical kit just in case. I watch your videos because you teach what I want to learn. One pedal at a time.

No. But they will prove that this person is open to learn and act according to certain safety measures - which will keep you safe 😊 so if safety is a concern, then certified coaches do have advantages. As for knee pads, I recommend G-Form. Super flexible. Machine washable.

@ G-form. Gracias. I will use them to also kneel on the ground for attending to an injured cyclist when volunteering as a bicycle host (or Marshall) at events. (We just had the IronMan) I am pretty sure I won’t like wearing pads, but knee protection lets me ride another day.

@@markmoreno7295these are super comfy. I often forget to take them off after coaching until way in the evening 😄

Absolutely. I go into all the details here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGXch6CrhMl9Z5Isi=l2ODn-CKDsrHYCG5 I used to think the same, but it’s a different type of riding and it adds so much fun to my rides.

There defenetly is a gender gap and we all need to push back on that....its unfair, and undeserved and Total BS. Keep doing what you. It's extremely helpful and well done.

54 year old man, here. I watch all of your videos and have tremendous respect for your skills as an educator and rider. More importantly, you strike me as a fundamentally decent human being. I’m grateful for the work you do.

Roxy, I saw your video that drew the inappropriate comments. I’m blown away. I found your technique to be spot on, and your teaching very clear and effective. I don’t see how a real mountain biker would have any other take away.

I was honestly mindblown, too 🤯😅 But that’s the magic of life. It brings unexpected challenges and sudden turns. I’m glad fit brought so much connection and respect in the long run 😍
