IWM just made models of the official designs published back in the day. Look up the artworks depicting the mechs shown here and you'll see IWM modelled them spot on. Also, Stalker, King Crab, Jenner, Dragon, they look super goofy, but that's kinda their charm in the old design. All that being said, I still do prefer the new designs.

Im on the east side, now enemies come from the west side....and then the east side......*send lancemates to cover the east while I waddle waddle to deal with the west* INCOMING ENEMIES COMMANDER! Now im on the west side and most enemies spawn on the east where my lancemates are. So, I quickly try to deal with the west side and move back to the east. All the while a couple of lights that jumped past us all are destroying the base. Yeah, defense missions are annoying as shit....not hard, just annoying as shit.
