Cursed IWM Models - Battletech Meme

Yeah the old sculpts are, well let's be generous and say "characterful but obsolete". BUT!!! Iron Wind Metals also makes metal models based on the new Catalyst plastic sculpts under the "New Classic Mechs" line and those are absolutely ace. Their metal versions of the default variants from the AGOAC box are multi part and as such much easier to repose. With the rather unique poses of some 'Mechs like the Locust, Wolverine and Shadow Hawk that's a godsend if you want multiple models in your force without them looking like carbon copies. But most importantly Iron Wind also makes different variants of the mechs from AGOAC. You want a Catapult K2 with PPCs or the C3 version with Arrow IV launcher? Or an Awesome 8R/8T with LRMs? Maybe a different Shadow Hawk like the SLDF Royal SHD-2Hb or Kuritan SHD-2K with a PPC? What about another Locust, your choice of 1V, 1E or 1Vb? Well IWM has you covered my friend! And no tricky conversion work needed! In the mood for a little basic converting? Well that Locust comes with two sets of arms: MGs for the 1V or twin lasers for the 1E. And the right 1E arm is perfect for converting a plastic Wolverine into the laser-equipped 6M/6K variant that's basically superior to the default 6R with its AC/5 in almost every regard. Just trim down the AC/5 ammo drum, drill a shallow 3mm hole in the ejection port for the little peg of the Locust arm and glue the 1E lasers to the side of the Wolverines AC. Presto, you've got yourself a Wolverine 6M/6K!

@@Andrewlik Don't get me wrong, I totally understood that and I agree wholeheartedly. Old BT art and models are often extremely weird and jank and rightly deserving of getting meme'd on. Just wanted to add the small bit of nuance that modern IWM sculpts are worth looking into because many newer players only associate IWM with the weird old sculpts. Thanks for the pin tho, guess that serves both our purposes!

on the upside, IWM's is phasing in the catalyst sculpts... but production wise I think it's a matter of they aren't going to throw away the old stock or the current molds. There are people still attached to some of those old and sometimes "derpy" models. Though that victor was actually city tech... the super bad plastics that were made before Fasa closed down. My friend has those sculpts and they are... "special" lol.

The two old Centurion sculpts make me curse the day God gave me eyes. Luckily, the new CGL sculpt along with the Omni variant definitely makes up for it, they both give me GM from Gundam vibes. That said, some of the IWM sculpts that debuted around 2010 and later are quite good-looking, like the Primitive variants. The resculpts of the famous Clan Omnis aren't bad either.

IWM just made models of the official designs published back in the day. Look up the artworks depicting the mechs shown here and you'll see IWM modelled them spot on. Also, Stalker, King Crab, Jenner, Dragon, they look super goofy, but that's kinda their charm in the old design. All that being said, I still do prefer the new designs.

I'm glad you showed the cursed Orion, but I am also very, very sad that you didn't include the original... I wanna say it's from CityTech art where it comes from. Because oh my god that thing is bad even for old art with its proportions. Not the worst I've seen, but notably bad. The worst of things not even mech related is the Thor Artillery Vehicle, aka "The Long Range Cherry Picker"
