Fantastic scene. Kinda made me think how I can improve in how I teach my employees. Great example. I do know this isn’t the “real” Thomas Keller, as I have a family member who worked at the French laundry and tells different tails. I hope the chef culture turns into more of this helpful mentorship in the future

This scene is so heartbreaking to me. If I understood correctly, that was his first job in a kitchen. Imagine having such a nurturing and genuinely nice first mentor. Someone that wanted him to succeed, someone who shared his philosophy, and actual teacher, and then go work for David Fields and completely destroy his idea of mentor through endless psychological abuse.

I have been a cook for over 12 years now, and this scene feels like someone who is ten times better then you, is just trying to show the right way to do certain things without having to yell at you, and help you better yourself along the way of being a better cook! Just listen, understand, know your place and theirs, and show respect as it will always be shown back to you likewise. I love this show!
