You can use a hump jumper to get over the thick seams.
@SewSewLive6 күн бұрын
I could! In this case it’s not the hump that was the problem and the foot has a built in leveler that acts like one. It’s more the transition of thicknesses it doesn’t like. It got better!

I love the collar on this shirt but I find it so boxy ,I took in the body and added ties to pull it in a bit and shortened the sleeves and now I love it. I’m going to try it in a knit and make a medium instead of a large. Also added 3 inches to the hemline.

I am making my second Auburn, and it's not been as smooth as the first. I have used the full bicep sleeve pieces to get more room across the back. I don't actually have a 'full bicep'. I'd prefer the sleeve look of the standard sleeve pieces. What adjustment would you recommend to get more room in the back for arm movement if I went with the standard sleeve pieces? Very much looking forward to your Unlined Auburn release on the 25th!!
@SewSewLive8 күн бұрын
If your jacket has a center seam you can try shaping it bit. I wouldn’t touch the sleeve if you’re trying to get more breadth across the back. A full bicep adjustment will only make the sleeve circumference larger. And if you do the one you see in the home sewing world, it’ll shorten the cap (I definitely don’t like that full bicep adjustment). You can try a broad back adjustment. But without seeing where it’s tight on you it’s hard to diagnose exactly what you need.

I like to use gutermann upholstery thread rather than top stitching thread. It's slightly finer so my machine handles it well and it has a good selection of colours.

French Seams for garments made on the bias especially evening gowns.
@SewSewLive12 күн бұрын
Hey are you asking a question?
@johnpluta176811 күн бұрын
@@SewSewLive Is it possible to use French seams to sew pants and shorts without a pattern and bias cut?
@SewSewLive11 күн бұрын
Let’s see! There are a lot of things going on in that question: Of course you can sew anything without a pattern using French seams if that seam finish is appropriate for the seam you’re sewing. Usually flat felled is more often used on pants sewing (say the inseam or crotch seam of most jeans) and French seams are a little too bulky. That being said if your fabric is light weight then yes. Bias cut fabric doesn’t fray in most cases so no seam finish is necessary. Of course people still inside on finishing the edges but like I said, I’d check the fabric, if it doesn’t fray it’ll be nice and soft agains the skin without any seam finishing. Bias cut shorts or pants are going to be an interesting pattern- it could work but it might not be worth the fabric use for the trouble of fitting them. They will feel weird when you’re wearing them. You probably can’t cut pants or anything that long on the true bias unless the fabric is wide enough. But you can cut it on some amount of bias.
@johnpluta176811 күн бұрын
@SewSewLive, I appreciate your answer. However, I have heard and seen videos on how to make a pants waistband on the bias for added stretch. Also, from reading your reply, I have tutorials on how to make palazzo pants on the bias. And it works while looking very good.
@SewSewLive11 күн бұрын
@@johnpluta1768 You are right! But you didn’t tell me either of those things. 😂 you didn’t say waistband. Yes you can do a waistband on the bias. But this is a seam finish video and I thought we were talking about seam finishes. Personally I like a waistband that doesn’t stretch out. So I never use a bias cut one. Palazzo pants can be on the bias too. I just didn’t know that’s what you meant. And I also maintain that cutting them on the true bias is hard due to fabric width and length of the pattern. Good luck!

What are your thoughts on using a flat felled foot? I just watched a demonstration today and now I’m thinking about getting a flat felled foot.
@SewSewLive15 күн бұрын
I’ve never gotten to try one! I think it could be really cool-but limited. It’s going to depend upon the fabric thickness, width and the seam you’re sewing. It could be a fun tool to have for some projects-but I wouldn’t bet it’d be great for all situations.

Thank you, although I found this tute rather intimidating and wouldn't have the confidence to cut away the seam allow at this point. Having watched your walkthrough, I realise that I made a complete and utter mess of my attempt a collar and stand. It's done, but there was a lot of fudging.
@SewSewLive20 күн бұрын
I’m so glad you got it done in the end! Sometimes it just becomes a mess. For me too! And resetting can be hard depending upon the fabric but I sometimes take it all apart, remove all threads, iron the heck out of it to get it to be less stretched out, check my notches and forge ahead. It’s a tricky thing to sew! But they get easier when you find what works for you.
