It depends on the provider, probably. Lingual wire retainers (that's the technical term for permanent retainers) are good for holding the very front teeth in position, but teeth can still move so most opt for the clear retainer to go over the teeth also.

Oh no!! It really depends on the person and how they tolerate pain. Definitely get back to your orthodontist for their recommendation, in addition to what they have already said. A warm liquid like hot chocolate or coffee may also help soothe the aches.

Gum isn’t recommended because of the bends the chewing causes in the wires. Meat as long as not on the bone and cut into smaller pieces is okay. Hope this helps!

The popcorn hulls are SO hard to get out of your braces. They can get stuck between your teeth and gums, which can cause irritation. We don't recommend it. Use caution when you eat it, for sure!!
