AHH 6 years ago. Isn't that interesting. I just bought my first smart plugs, a 4 pack for less than $30 US. I guess things have changed a lot in that time.

Uncomfortable talking to a device that's not human. Does exactly that for the whole length of the video :D

I finally found a solution for me that changed my Smart Home from being frustrating as hell to perfect!! It was simply changing from Router Mode on my DECO TP Link mesh system to Access Point Mode. It completely stopped smart lights and other devices from disconnecting and becoming unresponsive. The Smart Home is now Smart all the time with no disconnects, Game Changer for me. The WIFI range didn't really change it was something in the Access Point mode that completely solved my frustrations and problems.

The dog at the beginning of the video is SOOO cute! The way he looks at his daddy is just priceless!!! Also, great informative video! I have a multitude of IoT lights in my house and the lag when turning them on and off is awful! I think a mesh network may soft the problem.

I’m obviously in the minority but I don’t think this was a good review, or maybe it just didn’t age well. Keyless locks are very handy because you no longer have to carry or worry about leaving keys. I’ve had a keyless lock for about a year and when I changed over to my Sense I had no idea where I put the original key because I hadn’t use it in so long. As far as multiple keys, HD and Lowes will rekey it for free, or in the case of the Sense, it’s literally one screw to swap out the old cylinder and replace it with the old one so no need to rekey. You can actually just go with the one key since ideally you’ll be using the key pad. Schlage is generally considered to be a higher grade lock so it’s surprising that you chose the Premis. The Sense is more geared to HomeKit users - you can get a WiFi model for just a few bucks more instead of messing with the WiFi thing. I also use voice commands for my lock (HomeKit) because I can unlock the door before I even stop the car, plus you can set up scenes in conjunction with you smart garage door opener so that the door unlocks at the same time the garage door opens, plus you can add smart lights so you’re not in a dark or dimly lit garage. I’m also prone to forgetting to lock up at night so I have it set to automatically close at a set time and I can check it from my phone to make sure. The ability to set up access codes is great when you want some to do repairs or check on you pets. As you can see, I can go on and on about the benefits of smart lock - frankly they’re more handy than a bunch of other “smart” devices.

Hmmm I am swapping my 3 velop tri’s next week with 3 google 2 router one point (2nd router for a Ethernet port for ps5. I’ll let ya know. I’m only swapping cause I have a TON of google products in my home. 8 camera 4 hubs,doorbell , smoke detectors and lights. So I figured go with same brand for all.

Do you have an updated version of this Intro to Smart Plugs video? I'm looking to buy my first smart plugs but is it as straightforward as operating them through an app or do I need something like Alexa which I do not have. Thanks!

This is still relevant now, 4 years later. All August locks up to V3 are similar. V4 changed slightly to more expensive batteries. The install process looks virtually identical, though I feel the August may be a little more secure with its adaptor? The August seems to be a little more polished as well. That said, I like that it has a handle on it where you have to grab the side of the August.... It's a had choice really. The thing that moves me slightly toward the Danalock V3 is the fact there is a Z-Wave version of it available as well. Other than that I really can't find a lot of differences. Though the battery life is pretty good. That said, the cost of 4 batteries over the 2 AA's in the August locks may counter each other. Hard choice

A TV standby use of power averages $0.02/year ($100/year is the average cost of all appliances in 1 household) A TV only uses standby power to have the remote receiver on. A smart plug needs to be connected to the WiFi all the time, so will use much more standby power than a TV. So using a smart plug on a TV will actually increase your standby power use

Do you know how to access to the External Storage (External Hard Disk) plugged in the USB port of the AX4200 via local network, mobile phone and remote access?
@brentinjapan
@brentinjapan 2 жыл бұрын
Beware all: plugging something in won’t necessarily turn it on. My humidifier for example, once plugged in, will be ready to be turned on but it won’t start humidifying. There needs to be a manual on/off button for that to work.

Fwiw, I got the Orbi a few years ago… and have been happy Generally, I find that metal…. Like in a kitchen… is worse than bricks for killing wifi signal…. The Orbi has a couple of nice features…. Now it is older and has a discounted price, The separate channel function is valuable … basically, they have a totally separate router circuit to link the remote stations…. This way the connection to the remote is not absorbing bandwidth going to your devices. Finally, I like that the remote has a wired network connection…. Which uses the separate channel…. So again, it does not share bandwidth with your wireless devices That said, I do not game so do not need enormous bandwidth
