Not a boxer, but from a physio standpoint - he's right. The more open the arm gets on a swing, the only thing you will raise is your chance for injury. Stay compact and let the legs and core drive your power. Use your arm strength to stabilize the joints at elbow, wrist and shoulder and you will stay safer and fatigue less quickly.

I can punch but I never got wrist pain… My front two knuckles would always have the skin rubbed raw even with the hand wraps… And my hands would lock up the next day when I work power on the heavy bag the day before…

Its actually a pretty well known fact that most boxer punch wrong because they are never taught how to punch because they always wrap... Karate ppl do because they dont wrap wrists... good to see boxers starting to train more correctly.
