Hi Dr. Pilot - I also have a plane - a beech musketeer - based at KHWV. I was thinking about moving up to a saratoga and would really welcome a chance to see yours, just sit in it and talk to you about your experiences with it. Let me know if you'd be willing to chat - thanks - Dan

Wait, you cruised by both Bravo and Delta, hoping to cross another runway and cruise the full length of the runway, when he’s dealing with multiple flocks of F-16s? Isn’t he expecting you to exit the runway as soon as possible? Bravo may have been tight, but why didn’t you at least take Delta? Parking on the runway seems like a bad idea, under the circumstances. Did you request to use the full length of the runway and get it approved?

Unless people start using zoom, we’ll never be able to see any of the interesting traffic the pilot or controller is talking about. All we see is fuzzy trees and small building specks.

I’ll never understand why they make a black glare shield and white plastic things to go on it, creating a blind spot up around areas where you don’t need LESS visibility. There should be no white plastic, paper, or white checklists anywhere near the window.

Glad to see you making content again, I enjoy your videos. Sometimes it seems like figuring out where to park at an unfamiliar airport is the hardest part of a flight for me! I’ve got just under 200 hours and as an older guy, just now working on my IR, so IFR flights are encouraged!

@@DrPilotYeah, there’s been a few accidents there. A few that have run off the end of the RWY. Nice Saratoga by the way. I fly a Cherokee 140. After I moved to PA , I was based at KWBW and used to fly to Brookhaven all the time to visit family and work stuff. A friend of mine at Brookhaven just sold his Tiger , bought a Maule and bought a place up in NH with a RWY. You may know him. Ian Minishkin? I live in SC now and my Cherokee now at KCEU (Clemson). Bunches of great places to fly to Upstate NY, NJ, Block Island etc. Let me know if you’re ever down this way.

@@garygazman3827 One of the scariest episodes I've had flying was taking off to the north at N30; it's all uphill with rising terrain. Hot day in my Cherokee. I really didn't think I was going to clear the trees.

Great that your dad enjoys flying. Any icing ? Visible moisture and 21 degrees F is asking for trouble. I heard you tell your dad it was 21 degrees and you wouldn’t pick up ice , But the greatest chance of picking up Structural icing is between 0 to -10 C. Fortunately you weren’t in the soup.
@DrPilot6 ай бұрын
That is true but as you get below 20 degrees the chance continues to decrease.

Glad to see you have a hanger. I just bought a Mooney and I'm 79 on a small hanger and 40 on a large hanger at KCDW. Maybe in two or three years I will be inside. I installed a Rieff heater and will be using a full body cover in the mean time. You are in my old stomping grounds. I received my BS in aviation and management at Dowling in the early 80's. Flown out of KISP and Mid Island Air Services handled Dowling's flight curriculum. Block Island is a hidden jem. Been there many times.

I was looking at your route because it would be cool to go right over the top of JFK like you did. It looks in ForeFlight like another piston flew departure & destination recently and went direct at 15,000. Not sure if your Saratoga is turbo or NA, but why not go direct if that’s an option? My guess it that it would run you too far offshore but was curious. Great videos!
@DrPilot7 ай бұрын
When you pick up an IFR clearance you can ask for whatever you want but in NY airspace you are going to get the same thing all the time. From KHWV if you are heading to south NJ will get CCC then KEEPM to JFK then DIXIE usually. If you go higher they may take you off shore but usually they will not give you higher until you are out of NY airspace. You can only go direct if you cancel IFR above the deck and then go direct. I have Turbo but with my Dad was worried about him needing oxygen at that altitude ( i have onboard O2 but rather he not use it )
@davidburshtan5787 ай бұрын
Very nice and I like how you took your dad. How did you put together the Dr Pilot intro? I’ve got a plane in SoCal and thinking about doing a similar channel. Dave

I used FIVER and bid it out for animation. I had someone made the logo. It cost less then $100

Okay, that clearance is FUBAR. Departing 24 at Brookhaven puts CCC DIRECTLY BEHIND YOU, not to mention IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF YOUR DESTINATION! Dafuq? 🤔

That is standard out of Brookhaven to get on the airway. Yes I agree it is ridiculous to take off into IMC and have to turn hard right almost 180 degrees
