I have some strong objections about this plot point. First: The goddess of magic looks incredibly bland. Her face is an asymmetrical mess. The way Gale had described her, I was expecting the most beautiful woman in the entire game. But she's just... average. As a portrait artist, I feel somehow deeply offended by the mundane imperfection of Mystra's features. Second: She's acting like your boss' boss who makes their appearance twice a year at company meetings, greets you with superficial pleasantries, and always addresses you in regard to your work function, not as a human being. The entire interaction didn't contain even a hint of a former romance between the two - or that they even knew each other well, or even spent any significant amount of time together. This is beyond merely "toxic relationship" or something similar, it literally breaks immersion. It *completely* contradicts everything Gale has been saying about Mystra up to this point. I'm not even frustrated, I'm just confused. Overall - badly written dialogue, badly presented character. The whole thing is underwhelming.

Intresting, in my playthrough Mystra brings up they were lovers and he throws back at her how she had no right to ask him to kill himself.

I imagine trying to hear her over the waterfall in real life makes this way more stressful

It looks very strange.. For me who wasn't romancing Gale in my playthough he didn't look and sound THAT much still in love with Mystra. And you say it's a video from a playthrough where you're romancing Gale. Really strange. Especially after he said in act 2 that he's totally over Mystra and love only you (i was curious and tried his romance scene in act 2)

Perfectly fine to have monogamous characters (it’s actually great because it makes them feel more real and not like toys for the player) but gales insecurity and anger clearly comes from having been a plaything for mystra. You also see it if you try to have a foursome with him and the drow

that's strange since i've heard the Tara story only the night after tiefling's party. And at the party he proposed me to learn some magic and that's it. i've started to play BG3 thinking of only romancing Astarion but the more i play the more i fall into Gale, so smart, so delicate.. Oh.. Astarion is a doll but Gale.. This is the man i'd love to have in real life.

I just had the same cutscene where he was in absolute agreement with Mystra that he'd give her the crown after it's separated from the elder brain. He's not romanced in this playthrough either. I don't know exactly what I've done to make it happen, though.

As a cat dad that is the highest compliment I can give anyone is that they're like my cat and if they start acting like a spicy kitten I'm going to scold them like a spicy kitten! I did my first playthrough with Astarion and now running my second playthrough with Gale. My gods, what a difference his attitude and love makes to the game and the story. After this cutscene I was absolutely astounded that people preferred Astarion's romances over Gale's. Are people so afraid to open up and show love to each other? I'm a trauma survivor myself and I understand Astarion's story and his behaviour - I went through a lot of the things he did, including changing who you are to ensure you don't get hurt, but his story is raw and sad and he needs help more than any romance. Gale is just full of love and affection and care and he just needs someone to tell him he's enough, that he doesn't need power, he just needs to recognise his own value. It isn't needy. We all need this.

i don't like how all of them go "you should've told me sooner" in this scene, like from the very beginning you can tell every companion that you have this urge to kill and all of them just brush it off, gale's response was something stupid like "that's okay, everyone's like that sometimes" 🤡 f you mean tell you sooner i literally did

It would seem I accidentally picked all the right dialogue with Gale in act 1 and 2. I saw traces of moments in act 3 where it is implied he could be tempted to seize the Crown, but he never even entertained the idea with me.

He may not be as supportive as others as he seems to be freaking out more, but in his defense; he's a wizard. He isn't trained to sleep with one eye open or have the mindset to always watch people in case there'll be knifes coming for his back. He isn't great at dodging things and can't take a lot of damage. So yeah... he's trying his best in the situation here, dad jokes included XD
