Video from my DU playthrough. I was super suprised to see this scene trigger before the celebration with the Tieflings; I haven't seen this varient on YT yet. I also think it's pretty funny how he reacts to a sorcerer, a being whose powers come from the sheer force of their Cool Factor/Charisma stat. While this is a DU playthrough, I don't think the character being the DU changed this scene at all.

I love the idea of a character who was just born with innate magic ability, but grew up & was taught against the use of magic. So, they spend their life trying to fight against it & hide it. You could multi-class & have an interesting journey toward acceptance. Saarebas, i.e. mages born under the Qun, in Dragon Age definitely come to mind.

@@xXSakuraTearsXxmight be interesting to explore what happens when magic is being pushed down, too. Like in Harry Potter, kids just tend to start doing uncontrolled and unintended stuff (Harry certainly did with the glass that a snake was behind in a zoo, not sure if they included it in the movie), or in Fantastic Beast, there are obscurials, which are much darker.

Come to think of it, it really must suck to be a wizard in this world. Everyone else gets their magic from a deity, a patron or it's just in their blood, but wizards have to study their ass off for years to get theirs and even then, it's limited. Imagine having to study in school for years, go to college and have to study for your tests every single night and then finally, when you graduate, you know just enough to be considered a certified member of the club, but you're still on the bottom rung. And then there's some dude who prayed to a god or made a deal with a devil and just gets to have everything you have, just because they prayed/made a deal. What took you years of study took them only a fraction of the time. Even worse when you meet someone who just has it because 'oh, it's just a natural talent of mine. You have to study hard to pass your test. I sleep in late, show up late to class and still do better than you on my test.' Ofcourse, the others also have downsides that wizards don't have. Someone who prays to a deity has to keep upholding the ideals of that deity, lest they lose their connection and their magic is severed. Those who make a deal with a patron often end up regretting it in the long run, because their patron wants something from them that they're not willing to give. And sorcerers, whose magic comes so naturally might look like they have it made, but it's actually burning them up on the inside and if they don't release it periodically, it will literally burst out of them. It demands to be used and released. A sorcerer is more like a ticking time bomb who HAS to unleash his magic from time to time, where as a wizard has complete control over hown when and how often they use theirs and need fear no deity or patron, with the exception of Mystra, but not pissing her off is usually as simple as not dabbling in magical arts that she has forbidden.

@Xylarxcode
@Xylarxcode 10 ай бұрын
@@serronserron1320 That's probably because if your powers come from a deity and you're getting a bit too liberal with them or you're starting to show signs of extreme arrogance, they'll just strip you of your powers and then you're no better than a common fighter. Warlock patrons are almost always in control of their 'pets', from the very start and warlocks either don't live very long to begin with or they're desperately looking for ways to get out of their contract. And sorcerers are reckless and often live a life of danger, so they're not likely to live very long. But a wizard knows patience and perseverance. They can keep growing their personal spell library and expand their magical knowledge as much as they want and not have to worry about some deity or patron breathing down their neck or their magic trying to burn them up from the inside. Because a wizard has to study hard to get their powers, they know magic better than most other spell using mortals. It's only logical that this means they understand it on a deeper level than them and as we all know, knowledge is power. The more they learn, the more they grow in power. They can also afford to live in a city and slowly grow in power, unlike the others. It goes a lot slower, but that provides them more opportunity to iron out any mistakes and cover all their bases before they make their move to grab more power.

@@Xylarxcode And yet you have bards, which are not quite innate, not written, and rarely tap directly into the divine. 5E paladins and Bards have one thing in common, and it's the sheer power of personality and conviction that allows them to be so powerful. Sorcerers are powerful blasters, wizards are excellent at utility, and clerics are excellent at either crowd control or buffs. Bards say "I'll have a little bit of all of that." and then will combine spells from each magic type into the most overpowered combos in lore history without accidentally destroying the world, killing a god, or killing themselves Because after all, music ain't so nice if there's nobody to play to.

I kinda hope sorcerer lore gets a bit of a update or fix to make them more interesting i feel like "naturally talented" makes for very dull and un likeable characters most of the time you have wizards who spend there whole lives studying and working hard to be the best they can be sacrificing there lives to the weave while sorcerers are just naturally given everything with no work or draw backs other classes devote themselves to a god or oath giving them a strong background to build from a reason for there strength warlocks get into risky pacts with beings of imense power every class in dnd feels like they have some depth built into to help understand how much a character has worked or sacrificed for there power, so it just feels so dull and boring compared to everything else i hope sorcerers get some needed flavor in future editions

Lorewise I like to build sorcerers as having had a traumatic incident related to when their powers awoke, and subsequent bad memories due to extreme pressure being placed on them to use their powers effectively. Sorcerers will have access to the most potent magic out of all the classes, and it might cause wild surges of power or change their appearance irreversibly. Just like real life gifted kids, sorcerers will be playing on easy mode for the first part of their life but when the time comes, they'll hit a wall and burn out because they never did learn how to apply themselves and suddenly they have to. Whereas wizards will continue on in a gradual upwards curve, gaining more and more power. Most characters with access to magic in fiction are sorcerers who had it from birth. They're not boring, the idea of magic as a gift isn't the problem, it is literally just bad writing and a lack of imagination.
