very fun video and excellent efforts made to bring these moves up to speed! very fond of your ideas for tri-attack and barrage, especially the latter. i wouldn't have thought to take the signature _away_ but it makes sense with the translations in mind, and barrage's best alternative qualities are kinda outdone by bullet seed anyway... i did have an alternative approach to *roar of time* that i think could work in a similar way, though it's a bit more complex: after a hit, a "time slow" effect would be placed on the field for a few turns - while this doesn't directly change how the pokémon attack, it would double the amount of turns 'passed'... for example, after attacking once, a pokémon afflicted with poison would take damage from it twice, or a blaziken would get two turns of speed boost after only one attack. this also accounts for the time slow itself, so it would realistically only be two turns' worth of the effect, but for something of this nature that could even shorten the length of moves like sky attack or shrug the recharge turn off of moves like rock wrecker or giga impact (or even another roar of time!) i think it'd be fair to reduce the amount of time you can really capitalize off of it.

Don’t forget, Freeze Dry isn’t the only move that’s super effective against an extra type; it’s effective counterpart, Scald, is a water type move that’s super effective against ice types. So water and ice both have moves that hit the other super effectively! The only problem is that, while quite a few Pokémon can learn freeze-dry, as of Scarlet and Violet, only Volcanion can learn Scald
@H1_R3Z6 күн бұрын
Scald isn't super effective on ice; it just thaws the user and/or the target if they're frozen.

Seemingly useless, outclassed moves still at least have a right to exist in that they're storytelling. And yeah, there's times when you look at a few mons with those uncannily shallow movepools and it just... feels weird. Even when no one will ever use them, outside of a learning experience or some kind of randomizer. Moves like Slam, dig or Vicegrip really enforce themes of a pokemon's behavior as an animal. Its cool to think that they're demonstrating some activity and looking to their trainer, asking, "Hey, would this trick be useful for battle??" Its like when my dog teaches herself tricks. So yes, it'd be nice for all moves to be competitively viable, and I'm absolutely down for changes like the moves even more thematic, (I love the Barrage idea in particular) but I'm not going to be too upset if some remain as diegetic fluff.
@robbienewman17039 күн бұрын
I like the idea of tri-attack, but it'd be a lot simpler if it became multi hit move with each hit dealing damage and status chance for each type respectively.

About Ariados, in random double battles, Ariados works pretty well as a tank: sticky web, rage powder, struggle bug, lunge, toxic spikes, protect or others. Maybe a buff for it would work in that defensive direction and not so offensive.

Pretty sure that 45 base power twin needle would break gen 1 in half and make Beedrill the strongest Pokemon in the game, which is not necessarily something you want out of an early route bug, which by design is meant to to an early game power house which falls off late game

Video idea Fix the Top 6 Worst Pokemon. 7# Cryogonal (Lv 20 dies From lv 10 Geodude with rock throw. Shame too because he has one of the best designs in the series. And why does it learn attract lol) #6 Bruxfish (Abilities are bad. Typing is mid. And even though I’m not taking design into account we must admit that this is just terrible… and also Why does He have The Ability that increases chance of status moves hitting but all of its status moves are above 90% Accurate…. Hidden ability more like hidden disability) 5# Sunflora (Being a grass type in a region where it’s Not kind to grass types is already terrible but when you have a bad movepool and bad stats there’s no redeeming you. And WHY DOES HIS HIDDEN ABILITY DO CHIP DAMAGE) #4 Kricketune (he has no good moves. His typing only handles gardenia and Do you even think this thing has a chance against roserade. And look at its stats ugh… “but it’s an early bug of course it’s bad later on” yeah but THE BUGS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD EARLY ON. WHAT DOES THIS THING HIT?) #3 Chimecho (Pure psychic is already not that great of a typing (Unless you are gen 1). And it’s stats… no. It could be a good set up Mon but. It’s too slow and frail to do anything. If you want a psychic type just use medichan which is found in the same area. Also you know the Ip address of the person who thought up Ching a ling) #2 Frostmoth (Worst typing in the series. Ice and Bug are the most garbage and the stats don’t help. That 125 special attack won’t matter if it’s dead to one of its many 4X weaknesses.) #1 Ledian (Do I even need to explain? Just look at the stats and the fact it learns its first big move at LEVEL 16)

@someguy76410 күн бұрын
Just saw this popped on my recommended and thought I'd say I like your video style! Besides that, I want to add some personal thoughts about your reworks. I misunderstood the Tri-attack calc for status effects at first, but it would overall give each one with the new proposed buffs 10% of a chance to activate. I say this because I initially mistook it as 30% chance for each status effect to activate, which needless to say, would be utterly horrifying. Fun fact, in the competitive pokemon subreddit r/stunfisk, giving Dialga auto trick room has been such a popular theory rework that it ended up getting banned from discussion, and is a bit of a meme about "popular reworks that seem good on paper but would be utterly stupid in practice". At the very least, in Scarlet and Violet's raid Dialga event it actually does set up trick room as soon as the battle starts. Which if nothing else, is pretty funny. The move I have personally always wanted to see a rework of the most is Bonemerang. Because come on, of all the non-Zygarde ground moves, this one is the one that feels most deserving of having tbe ability to hit flying types. And frankly, poor Marowak needs all the help it can get nowadays when half of the best pokemon in competitive are ground types.
@K-popQueenSoo-Ah10 күн бұрын
You do realize Bonemerang still has advantages over EQ right? It’s power is not lowered by Grassy Terrain where EQ is and Bonemerang can also break Study and Focus Sash to allow a OHKO plus it doesn’t hit your teammates in doubles

17:11 fun fact I don't know if this was your inspiration but the rom hack Pokemon Clover actually introduced an ability called Bone Zone, it's a signature ability for a powerful pseudo legendary and its effect is that it makes bone-based attacks ignore immunities (for example, bonemerang can hit flying type pokemon, and shadow bone can hit normal type pokemon)

It's a little baffling to me how ice is always a late game specialist. Lorelei, Pryce, Glacia, Candice, Brycen, Wulfric. Why wait until there's a 100% chance that the player has at least one really reliable way to sweep an ice team? Chuck it in the first half, although even then you'll probably have decent coverage.

honestly, i think barrage kinda loses something if you try to turn it into an actual move, because it _does_ serve a purpose that often goes underappreciated: adding flavor to a pokemon's early moveset. it's a signature move only in the strictest sense, similar to the cubone line's other "signature" move of bone club, where there's not ... actually _anything_ iconic about them. they're chucking orbs and hitting something with a bone. they're incredibly generic moves that are only so narrowly distributed because there's just not other pokemon that have a collection of balls or regularly swing around a bone, so they end up being unique little facets of a specific line's movepool that save them from just filling the early slots with stuff like tackle or pound. could maybe use some accuracy tweaks because, hey, they _do_ end up being unique moves that help define the line at low levels, but i don't think there's any reason to try to make 'em anything more than that ( esp. with barrage, since you'd have to _completely_ rework it to make it anything that exeggutor would even consider using ) it's a similar thing with spider web, except it doesn't even have the distribution issues of the former two. it's a mean look variant, but for things that can make webs. as-is they don't give it to more than spiders, but given that electroweb has been accessible to _pikachu_ since the gen after it was introduced, i don't think that needs to be a hard and fast rule. granted, it _does_ explicitly have spider in its name, even in japanese, so it could fit itself into the glare and crabhammer niche and justify some sort of buff over mean look, as a variant limited to a particularly specific class of pokemon. still, i don't think it really needs much more than being a fusion of, like, string shot and mean look, or something - it is just kinda "getting tangled up in spider silk: the move," after all

I never knew that Hidden Power had different types I always thought it was a normal move
@Blue_EmeraldX13 күн бұрын
I actually had my own unique approach to Tri-Attack to make it work like a weaker, more technical Judgment or Techno Blast. If you give the user a Fire/Ice/Electric type-enhancing item (i.e., Charcoal, Icicle Plate, Magnet), Tri-Attack would change to that type, with a respective 30% chance to inflict burn/frostbite/paralysis. In exchange for the 80 power from the Normal-type version, the move drops to 50 power-the reason for this is twofold: 1) Gameplay Balance: Normal needs the attack boost more than the other types, since it hits nothing super-effectively; and if you're changing Tri-Attack's type, you're likely doing it for type coverage, so you'll be hitting for more than 80 power in those situations (including the 20% boost from your item). In many cases, you're giving a Fire/Ice/Electric move to a Pokémon that doesn't have access to one (as well as having control over which ailment you inflict), so there should be some kind of catch. 2) Flavor: Since Tri-Attack is only using one of the three beams, it would naturally be weaker than using them all at once.

Psychic being a strong type is something which is only really true in gen1. Special was both spatck and spdef with all psychic moves being special. Dark and steel did not exist. Psychic was immune to ghost due to a coding error. There were no good bug attacks Poison was the most common type in gen 1. Psychic was a 95 bp 100acc with a 30% chance to lower special in a game with few good moves. The only type which is better is normal due to the hyper beam glitch. The second dark was added to counter psychic and the games were fixed psychic became mediocre. With the advent of knock off and uturn psychic is now bad
@bulborb875610 күн бұрын
tbh, they mainly added dark and steel to nerf psychic (and steel was also added as a nerf to normal) because it was too overpowered and to buff fighting which was struggling hard
