Do you know the average wait time for a rebuild? .. and any recommendations if my truck is my only vehicle? I only have one shock that is squeaking so would I have to swap my shock for a temporary replacement while I send it in?

This is a fantastic video Ben. Thanks for putting this information out. Would you be able to do a video on breaking down a King coil-over shock? I figure that once the coil is off, the process is very similar.

You need to get a hold of akron bearing and seal. Give them the inside dimension and out side dimension or the part number from the old seal they will get you the correct seal to use sometimes you may need the hight of the old seal. And sometimes you may need an o ring they can help with those too. I have had good luck with bushings and needle bearings and ball and taper roller bearings also They are in akron ohio.

@@ShockService I do that more often than not. Even with honda motorcycle and dirt bike stuff. The parts are readily available. But so overpriced I found that if I get the parts this way generically I save a ton of money and they 99%of the time have the same seal part numbers if something is different it's like an extra seal lip for pre wiping dust away and dosent effect the seal altho they have usually been able to get the oem style seal after I mention the difference and ask the why is that different questions. And I still end up getting them cheeper than the oem part. Thanks for the videos you make its always nice to be able to share and swap information that helps us all

What’s your turnaround time if I send you guys a set to rebuild?
@ShockService
@ShockService Жыл бұрын
That depends on the style of shock, the number of shocks, and the services needed but once we have you on the books we always ask for 2 weeks. Services rarely take that long but we want to account for any surprises and the need to have parts delivered if we don't have them in stock. Email us with a few photos of your shocks and we can get you a more specific ETA as well as a price quote.

Translation: "Can you please explain why you took the shock absorber apart? Putting small screws into the piston? What are they needed for? Blocking some channels?" Reply: When tuning a shock, the valving shims are adjusted or rearranged and in this case a set screw was used to block one of the bleed holes to reduce oil flow through the piston. (King shocks have 3 open bleed screws by default.)

Very informative Ben and great job with your comprehensive content. Just curious as to whether or not King, or your firm, offers stainless Schrader fittings as well as stainless fittings for the Aeroquip plumbing from the shock to the reservoir,, If they do hopefully it's of the 316L variety, marine grade and not just 304, "exterior". Please advise at your convenience. Thank you and am looking forward to visiting with you on my Ram 3500 4X 6.7. Regards,,

Ben, I am familiar with rebuilding WP, Showa, KYB shocks on dirt bikes and vacuum bleeding before nitrogen charging is nearly required. Is there something unique about King shocks that doesn’t necessitate vacuum bleeding or is that still best practice?
@ShockService
@ShockService Жыл бұрын
Vacuum bleeding is optional as the design allows for easy bleeding on most off-road shocks like these. For more complicated shocks or unique configurations we do use a vacuum bleeder.
@cjmuelle1

Thanks for the reply. If I may one additional clarifying question. And that is because for example even a non Bypass 2.5 reservoir shock doesn’t contain any valve stack between the reservoir and the shock body.

you talk about the pressure needed to remove the whiper cap, but i don't understand why?
@ShockService
@ShockService Жыл бұрын
Great question! The wiper cap threads onto the seal head so if there is no pressure in the reservoir the seal head might turn under the retaining ring. In other words, the pressure pushes the seal head against the retaining rings and creates enough friction that you can un-thread the wiper cap.

hello, the shaft spacer on my shock cant be remove, what should i do?
@ShockService
@ShockService Жыл бұрын
I'm assuming this is an external shaft spacer. Use some heat and once the spacer expands, spray some WD-40 around the shaft, you should be able to work it loose. If not, remove the rod end and then tap it off that direction.

I’m considering buying a set of Carli King Pintop shocks for my F350. Can you tell me what the average miles between rebuilds? I think you mentioned 50,000 to 100,000. Also, I tow a fifth wheel but I have airbags to assist with the load. Will this affect the life of the shocks? I ran ICON before and they require a rebuild at 20,000 miles… sometimes less. Horrible shocks in my opinion. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Dumb question, but how do you remove stuck spherical bearings? On my 2.5's half of them came out with a bit of persuasion, the other ones were not coming out at all and I did not want to damage the caps or the rod ends. Your videos helped a TON, very much appreciated. I was going to ask the same question @usrunningrampant3711 did, those are really cool. Oh and have you thought about trying a small arbor press for the press in seals? They work amazing on u joints ect.
@ShockService
@ShockService Жыл бұрын
We cover that in our other video but basically you just need to support the rod end or top cap and then use a socket to hammer out or press out the bearing. If the rod ends are damaged, make sure to press the bearing out through the lest damaged size. You can also use heat if necessary.
