question, I'm really introverted, if I want to apply here in the future, do you think it's a pretty good place? Like people aren't too intense or anything? I know that sounds weird lol, I'm just really awkward and I'm trying to get better about it but it's difficult

@@sour.skittles I mean I guess it’d depend on your course. mine was a summer school programme so I only really interacted with international students. they were pretty similar to me culturally (ie western) so I didn’t find it to be anything out of the ordinary. the Americans were pretty extroverted. I think if you’re in a class full of Koreans, they’d probably be more reserved/introverted? either way it was pretty chill and everyone was nice

Hi 你好!🤗, it’s so good to see you making the effort to learn Mandarin using Duolingo. I too have a paid subscription but find that the Chinese is really just a kickstarter. Same issues with the speaking exercises 😂. I’ve kept the subscription and even upgraded to the Max so family members learning French and Spanish can benefit. I no longer use for Chinese but doing the online course with Yāngyāng from YoyoChinese. It’s night and day. Anyways keep going with your studies! You’ll be fluent one day 🎉🥳

Your pronunciation of 'hanzi' is a little bit western, actually I do not believe there is any word in mandarin pronounced as 'zee', so in English the phonetic pronunciation would look more like 'hanzuh' or maybe 'hanzeh'. Watching Chinese dramas is a great way to improve your pronunciation and get a sense for how native Chinese speakers shape consonants and vowels.

Thank you so much for letting people know you can turn off pinyin!!! I just started learning mandarin on duolingo 2 weeks ago, and I've been having such a hard time with memorizing the hanzi. Turning it off helps so much because you can just focus on learning to associate the word with the character without the distraction of the pinyin. Great advice!

I studied Japanese from yr6 to yr 8 in primary school and High School then studied it again at University for 2 years. All my teachers drilled into me and my fellow students that stroke order is super important. 20 years later when wanting to self learn mandarin i just naturally learn the stroke order when learning the character. Loved the tip about the graded reader. I've been looking for something to help me with that. I always read aloud and try to make sure I'm pronouncing words correctly as well

something i should've mentioned is that i'm a very visual learner when it comes to memorising things! bright colours, big titles, and structured notes help me out loads, no matter the subject. if you make notes in a different way then that's 1000% fine, what matters the most is that it works for you :) thank you for the love on this video! <33

@@bangtinyseven wow, I did a level Spanish so I already know your Chinese level must be much higher than mine hahahahaha, but in my extracurricular classes we use the ‘discover China’ textbook series. there’s multiple books for different levels so you might find something useful there - there’s also lots of free pdfs available online so you can check them out before you commit to buying one. apart from that, I use either Duolingo or follow the HSK curriculum! I hope that helps :)

@vitaliy1858
@vitaliy1858 Ай бұрын
@@dashasdigitaldiaryy Hey, as someone who is studying chinese at university, maybe I could give you some advice on handwriting, the reason people might say it's "bad" (it's not really) is just because it's sometimes pretty hard to read due to a couple of tiny mistakes. For example, you sometimes extend lines that shouldn't be extended, some elements are too big or you forget tiny parts of the characters like in 我 it's supposed to go back up on the 5th stroke and they are also really round which is not that common. Some computer fonts that look very close to your handwriting exist, but it's not that common for people to write like that. So, it's not bad at all and it's already very impressive to learn a new language and to stick to it, plus it's not as important to know how to write nowadays, but if you want to improve that would be where you're struggling, you can watch videos on Chinese handwriting on youtube, there are great ones, I hope this helps
@dashasdigitaldiaryy
@dashasdigitaldiaryy Ай бұрын
