Hi thank you so much for your videos they are super helpful, as I am looking for a political science PhD right now. A video about how to write a PhD research Proposal with dos and donts would be very helpful. Best wishes!

I am looking for a field that best combines helping people who are homeless or otherwise disadvantaged (such as struggling single mothers), planet conservation, and animal welfare. Do you feel that Political Science would be the best major for this field of interest?
It’s a known AND proven fact that 99.99% of colleges and universities are nothing else than unofficial schools of Marxism and socialism

Get your hands on "The Polity of Beasts"--which is (as one reviewer called it) a "savage" look at the American political system.

I graduated with a Political Science degree in 2004. I have spent much of my career working in the field of public assistance benefits eligibility. I started out with a job determining eligibility for welfare programs like TANF, SNAP, and Medicaid. I used that experience to enter areas like Welfare Auditing, Business Analyst, and testing the software used to process welfare programs. Alot of folks think you need to enter politics with this degree, but I've found that the ability to interpret policy and research policy are aided by a Political Science degree.

I’m working through year 1 of a degree… I’m 37. I’m strongly considering a double major in PoliSci and Psych. I’d like to go to law school, and if that doesn’t work out, write and do research :) Your channel has been super helpful, thank you!

I am a political science student in Korea! I'd also like to share my list. My favorite books concerning politics and IR (except the one Dr. Maiden already recommended would be... (1) Diplomacy (Henry Kissinger, 1994) (2) The Tragedy of Great Power Politics (John J. Mearsheimer, 2001) (3) Foreign Policy Analysis (Valerie M. Hudson, 2006) (4) The Origins of Totalitarianism (Hannah Arendt, 1951) (5) Han Feizi (Han Fei, 3rd-century BC) (6) Mencius (Mencius, 4th-century BC) (7) The Dictator's Handbook (Bruce Bueno de Mesquita & Alastair Smith, 2011) (8) The Righteous Mind (Jonathan Haidt, 2012) (9) Justice: What's the Right Thing to Do? (Michael Sandel, 2009) (10) The Two Koreas: A Contemporary History (Don Oberdorfer & Robert Carlin, 1997) I got a lot of inspiration from pre-modern East Asian political classics and books on Korean politics, which is my own country. Hope the professor sees my comment!

LOL, making his eyes roll back as he immerses in bliss, it's a mind-blowing experience, I did what I mentioned last week and the look on his face says it all, I learned the exact moves following Jevie Hindlerg’s advice. Go’ogle her, for me it just keeps getting better and crazier!

These books are great for indoctrinating political science students into being a good leftist. You forgot Das Kapital by Karl Marx a nice long boring read if you have trouble sleeping at night. I also recommend Critique of Pure Reason by Immanuel Kant, the guy responsible for influencing philosophy, along with Hegel, toward that utopia you speak about, socialism aka communism, and all of the other evil socialist ideologies like fascism and Nazism. One essential book you really should include is The Prince by Machiavelli, the father of modern political science, which teaches power politics and real politik. Every political leader has a copy of this book. Another good book is The History of Political Philosophy by Leo Strauss. Students need to study political philosophy from Plato to today. They need to understand just how screwed up these guys were and how there is always a flaw in every philosophy and ideology. And finally I think another one is Objectivism: The Philosophy of Ayn Rand by Leonard Peikoff. Also it's important to study the documents that or nation was founded on, The US Constitution, The Declaration of Independence, The Writings of Thomas Jefferson, The Federalist Papers, and Anti-Federalist Papers. Throw in some Thomas Paine, like The Age of Reason and Common Sense and I think you have a pretty good foundation for political science. There are a lot more books, but these good starters. They teach the student about limited government, something our politics needs desperately. I know it's a bit too conservative for most Wokies, but we have way to many people trying to social engineer the world into that dystopia in 1984, btw that's a good one to keep on the list. It's where we are heading.

I think a big issue with this is that modern far left progressives are anti Liberal. Many of them are socialists Marxists. These are things that we do not support or seek to foster internationally or here at home. I believe a lot of the complainants about left wing indoctrination on campus are referring to that ideology, not liberalism. Conservatives are themselves a subset of Liberals ideologically speaking. we tend to use the term Liberal differently in the the U.S., but from an ideological prospective U.S. conservatives are more liberal than the modern U.S. progressive movement in many way. I think it is the dominance of authoritarian progressive ideas at U.S. universities which is new and which is what people are complaining about and taking issue with. I am a center left liberal and even I have noticed it and am deeply alarmed by it.

I started my first year in university this week. I have always been a strong writer, yet I often found myself struggling when it came to writing a thesis and a narrow topic for high school. This video helped me tremendously and I'm about to ask my professor their opinion on my topic. Thank you, Dr. Maiden.

Thank you so much for this video, I love poli-sci and I after getting my Bachelor's in it, I applied straight for the Ph.D to see how far I could go and I got in... While I am happy that I can take this step, I am so scared about all of these elements and feel like I am waaay in over my head, especially getting funding and how to do research.

It's this kind of commentary that create pitfalls for future alumni with poli sci degrees. There are probably a thousand different jobs you can get with a polisci degree, sure. But we need to give young people EMPIRICALLY EVIDENCED BASED analysis on job prospects. Around the 7 minute mark she gives ANECDOTAL evidence for job prospects. This cannot happen. Not to mention that entry level positions are becoming extinct as well as the universities blatenty giving more degrees than jobs currently available. Did this video even mention hiring rates? This isn't 1996 anymore. Even from 2014 from 2024, academia has turned completely on it's head.

Help Dr.. I am 48 yrs old and need to write my 1st college research paper. My topic is the exoneration of the wrongfully convicted due to advances in technology. I actually started researching and found out wrongful conviction is on the rise despite these advances. It's a 5 page paper my professor wants history of topic where it is now what changes need to be made and how I would implement the!. Right now I have notes all over the place and cannot figure out a clear and concise outline

Hi, I’m a sophomore political science student about to be a junior in the next fall 2024 semester. I’ve simply been striving for a political science degree but I’m not much of a speaker but I am interested in themes of behavior and politics and being engaged. However, I’m stuck. I don’t know what to do anymore and I don’t know what other major to switch to if I switch. Speaking is such a big part of the major that I’m wondering if it’s okay to be less of a good speaker.
