The city planners of the 1950s should be locked up for crimes against humanity, they literally destroyed any potential downtown had with the highway 5 and destruction of the historic west end

I was working at the office that Saturday morning in Sacramento, a good 15 miles away from Roseville, when I felt the first blast concussion. For the next two hours, the building shook from blast after blast. I was 23 at the time working in an architectural office. I stayed tuned to the TV listing to KCRA's live coverage.

The train station at the very end of this video, is now a location of The Old Spaghetti Factory. 1910 J St. still looks identical to the shot you see of it with a Sacramento sign on the side facing where the train would pull in. Only now that section is a bar, and the rest of the train station is the main restaurant. Union Pacific RR trains still roll through Midtown, stopping traffic several times a day, but no longer stop at the station as shown above- seeing as it's a restaurant, they roll on through. 😂

I graduated from high school in 1982, and I was able to ride on American river bike trail with no issues as a teenager, rafting was awesome and fishing. This town grew up and received everything that comes with it. By the late 90's it was becoming not so great of a place.

Power was good… side effects were bad. Ground became mysteriously polluted. Many workers came down with various illnesses. My auntie is slowly dying from the same brain cancer as several of her old co workers. If you fish at the rancho seco; there are still many fish with tumors and deformities.

His work is timeless and has stood the test of time - It's so successful because it reflects this man and his values... the gang remain innocent kids, the stories are pure and wholesome, and he doesn't tamper with their quirks they're known for...which is why I'm not surprised and happy to hear him say Charlie Brown will never kick that football from Lucy because he's Charlie Brown - It's forever a part if him. I love that about Peanuts. God bless this good man and when I reach the other side I hope I meet him there

@@ceaselesscomic Yeah, the city is a peach. Especially the Tenderloin district. Many Union Square storefronts are closed. SF streets are filthy. The crime and decay of a once great city further erodes the pride residents once felt for their city. I know. I lived in Pacifica and worked in the city in the 80's. Used to be fun. I'll not spend time or $$$ there.

I grew up in "The City" and my high school (Sacred Heart) was around the corner from Tommy's Joynt. Because we lived in the Richmond District, I took the 38 Geary bus to high school back and forth all week. I walked by Tommy's Joynt daily, and was captivated by the sights, sounds and the delicious aroma coming from this historic building. As a young teenager who still received an allowance from my parents, I could not afford to eat there. In 2023, while visiting San Francisco, I passed by Tommy's Joynt and my first impression was, "Wow, what happened?" The paint and murals on the outside were terribly faded. The inside was not any better--it was dimly lit and was probably untouched in 50 years. I looked at all the cuts of meat in the "Hofbrau Station" by the front door, and all looked dry and not very appetizing. Even the Buffalo Stew looked unappetizing, so I asked the "Chef" (the guy who "carves"/slices the meat and makes your order) what was best. He recommended the Turkey Sandwich. Seeing everything around me, I decided to buy the sandwich "to go" instead of dining in. While he was making my sandwich, I chatted with the "Chef". He told me that he had worked there forever, and that the customers had declined dramatically since their heyday in the 70s. Anyway, I ate the Turkey sandwich 10 minutes later in my hotel room and boy, was I disappointed! I could make a better Turkey Sandwich at home! It was dry--just a few, dry slices of turkey on uninspiring French bread--no pickles, onions, potato chips, etc.--even the mayo was sparse! Definitely not worth the $16 that I paid for it! No wonder regular customers have stopped coming in, only tourists now. So, after half a century of waiting to try Tommy's Joynt, I was left very disappointed and brokenhearted, because I could foresee another of my childhood memories, a San Francisco landmark, going extinct.

It was sold to new owners a year or two back. Not sure what the long term plan is but i can be pretty certain it doesn't involve running a dilapidated restaurant. Probably going to raze it and build a 50 story residential building.

My family lived there for one year. It was my kindergarten year at Gold Trail Elementary School, So ‘65-‘66. We were taking care of the place while the owners were in Japan, for their last tour of duty with the Navy. My mom, Cordelia, started the tradition of serving chicken and dumplings in the dining room. Even at 5 years old, I knew it was a little different than living at our ranch above Lotus. My father, Forrest, was the bartender downstairs on the weekends. I’m sure he embellished the ghost stories for the entertainment of the guests, but it was based on real occurrences.

Amazing piece of footage. I'd like to ask you if you could get and upload a very bizzare and rare interview of Richard Chase conducted by Robert Ressler. The infamous Mac and cheese interview, in which Chase pulls out a bunch of mac and cheese from his pocket, and offers it to Ressler, asking him to test the food, thinking it was poisoned.
