Since 1947, Vic's Ice Cream, located at 3199 Riverside Blvd. in Land Park, has been one of Sacramento's most beloved establishments. Generations of Sacramentans have treasured memories of this family owned business.
After the passing of owner Craig Rutledge in March 2024 at the age of 73, the business went up for sale. The new owners say they intend to keep things the way they have been, making the same ice cream on site, with only some minor renovations to the building.
This segment from KCRA's "Weeknight" program was filmed on June 19, 1981, and features an interview with Ashley Rutland who originally opened the business with his friend Vic Zito in 1947.
NOTE: A 43 second segment of the original film is missing. Although we have the entire mixed magnetic full coat film (which has been synched up to the film we have) a section of the visual element is not with the other film elements and has never been located. This segment has been covered with photos from the Center for Sacramento History, The Sacramento Bee, The Sacramento Public Library, and others. Special thank you to Sabrina Holecko for her assistance.
