33:00 talking about all his fans came in at different times so he's never actually sure what songs people know - absolutely. He's one of those you go back to at various points of life and you start listening to in 2010 and then you're like wait a second I never heard his early stuff and you go back and listen to albums instead of just hitting shuffle. I cant think of many artists where I'm actually interested in hearing their old stuff, and i feel like that speaks to the low effort that pop artists put in to their singles now and releasing single after single so there's no point in scrolling down to see what their albums were. Ben also started off with great releases that sound much different from now but there's consistency in the complexity in his early albums and his later ones. And dodie has the same conplexity. So I figure Ben Folds and Dodie fans are a lot different from Radiohead fans. You know?

I don't care what Ben thinks, Jon has disipline and he can do a song the same way twice, he's just being his self and knows how to come outside of the box, that's what today's musicians do, that's why we're so intimidated, do you Ben, leave Jon alone.

"what's the form that I take when I'm not trying to appeal to anybody" - that's the real crux of the matter! If even Jacob hasn't figured it out given his scope of abilities, what chance do I have lmao

this is pure gold. I’ll have to watch this at least another 10 times this month! Ben and George, two of the greatest visionaries around. I have to show this to all my students! That is the real thing! That’s why we watch youtube. Please, Ben, go on with those chats. Bring back George, I could listen to your conversations for days! I met George on many occasions in the past 25 years. Such a great human being! George, Al, Elliot and Bruce Swedien were my teachers, listening to their art for decades, reading every book and interview out here, and finally getting to know them personally was the greatest honour in my life.

Technique is over valued when creativity shows the path to braking the rules as an eye opener. Jon is light when he shows that dancing is not something you learn, its something that happens when you listen deeper. A voice or an instrument can be the same as a camera or a white sheet of paper that are only different because of the technique. Technique is necessary to go from an idea to an action we can hear, see or feel. Thanks for all you show with so much soul under your skin.

Knowing I WILL spend eternity with Jon but Im pretty sure I will not be spending eternity with Ben makes me really sad because Jesus created both and loves both They are BOTH Jazz though one is positive energy and the other is negative sarcastic usually (not w The Luckiest but certainly w Brick a pro abortion song I hope Jon would be adamantly opposed to murder but then again the reason he is famous is Colbert a Catholic who clearly is OK with murder of the innocent so who knows?) I love both these artists I love Bill Maher and I disagree with him on very important issues I love that these guys are friends this is awesome!!!!!!!!!!! 2 of my top 20 fav artists of all time up there w Phish Zeppelin Marley The Beatles Queen Fiona Apple DMB Pink Floyd Billy Joel Whitney Houston Tool Metallica 2Pac NAS Jay-Z Chopin Stevie Wonder The Who Genesis MJ Marvin Gaye RHCP The Beach Boys (Pet Sounds is the best album ever made but I dislike almost all their other beach stuff) Ben Folds Five Jimmy Hendrix Chuck Berry Radiohead U2 Keane Coldplay (NOT The Rolling Stones sorry only Exile on Main Street is epic) I love BUSY people They are type A the opposite of The Sloth Lazy me and I am attracted to my opposite like my wife Mandy who is called Speedy or Mouse (she is short skinny and fast) at work as a nurse MLK singing A Mighty Fortress is our God had weight to it because it was written while constipated on the toilet ...plus he only believed in God as POWER WRATH and WILL when what Jesus really was was Humble ...he was Love and he gave us Free Will as a gift so almost the opposite in many ways Fatalism is a lie but the 66 compiled bookS plural is NOT.....the bible is the word of God because Jesus is that word not just the red letters but all the other books not just the Paulian letters Jon can actually GROOVE Mike Gordon (in my favorite band of all time) and Flea in RHCP one of my top 100 bands of all time and I hate to admit it but even Bela Fleck and the Flecktones TONES....the BASS in those songs is because of Dave Matthews favorite Bassist of all time Victor Wooten and he may be 2nd or 3rd but Jaco is the greatest I hate to admit that Dave is wrong because Dave has the best living drummer in Carter Beauford (no not Jon Fishman but he is UP THERE) and Stefan Lessard leaves all kinds of music to be desired for me personally even in the Crush anthem he "sorta" Crushes Im left handed too the 9% black sheep but most intelligent people on earth GO BEN I notice that the best musicians have big hands and long skinny fingers like Jon Batiste and Trey Anastasio ...it makes it easier for them slightly in the DNA itself

How bout this system 1st octave normal C toC 2nd octave 1/4 step higher C to C next octave 1/8step and so on ? Add alot more keys gradually getting smaller and smaller intervals after 3or 4 whole tone octaves then what partial intervals would have greatest relationships?

Jacob, I hear a lot of jazz guys talk about hitting chord tones and having target notes and to me that makes no sense. If I'm in a jazz combo, the rhythm section is covering the root, third, etc. so why would I want to bore everyone by doubling up those notes? Nice show.
