Camera clubs need to admit cell phone shooters, since that's what is used now by 95% of people. In the old days they used brownies, then instamatics and 35mm whilst pros used 4x5 and Hasselblad. Today the phone is the instamatic, the FF digital is the 4x5 or Hasselblad. The clubs didn't restrict their members to MF or LF. So don't restrict cell phone shooters now.

2024 and Olympus is gone to the bankers for a few years of profit followed by liquidation. Cameras are going away like buggy whips, as folks accept lower and lower standards and pay more and more money for same.

All other things being equal ... a larger format camera will always offer better image quality than a smaller format camera. This is true whether you consider film cameras, or digital cameras.

For example ... a 24 megapixel DX format camera compared to a 20 megapixel Full Frame camera. At first glance, you might believe the results would be more or less equal, which they are. But on closer examination, you'll see that a larger format camera will offer better dynamic range, and less noise. The difference in this range is NOT huge, but it's SURELY noticeable.

Given TWIP is owned by Flickr, I would treat this accordingly. Flickr is a dead platform. No one is using it in 2024. It's not been updated for years. It's got a lot of potential as a photographer social network, but sadly it has been allowed to wither and die.

I have a Nikon D7100 with a 10-24mm, Tamron 16-300mm, a 40mm macro, plus a few vintage Vivitar lenses. But I've dipped my toes into micro 4/3 with a Panasonic GX80 and I'm impressed with the images I'm getting as well as how compact and portable the camera is. It's just like having a compact but with interchangeable lenses. I love the 14mm f2.5 and 20mm f1.7, they're both excellent. I can go walkbout with the GX80 without anyone asking me what I'm doing, whereas my DSLR and superzoom would always stand out. The camera also looks good with the 14-140mm which is gives me the perfect travel outfit. I'm adding the Panasonic GF2 soon, which I'll keep in my bag with the 20mm for quick grab shots.

AI metadata tagging and/or automatic image sorting into directories and sub-directories is a good idea, but different people have different ideas about how to sort thing. For instance, if a photo has a human and a dog in front of a car, does it tag it as a car, a human, or a canine? Good AI would be able to identify all 3 elements in such a photo, but an individual users really needs to set priority rules to determine which category wins in a mixed image. You could tag an image with all 3, but to autosort only one could 'win'. I work a lot with audio metadata but am quite ignorant about image metadata; Exiftool seems to be the Gold Standard for image tag ops (like Mp3Tag is for audio files), but Exiftool is a command line application, unlike Mp3Tag (a free German program I highly recommend).

Thank you Fredrick! What a wonderful interview with Scott Wilson!! He is definitely my favorite Wild horse photo advocacy photographer! He takes fantastic photos, was on the ground daily during the 2021 Sand Wash Basin Roundup! Difficult photos to see and must of been devastating for Scott to watch. That photo advocacy has reached far and wide. Many, many photos embedded in my mind I will never forget. Scott has always, always given back to others in donating to fundraisers, creating fundraisers doing as much as possible for the wild horses and Sanctuaries they have landed safety in to provide for their care. Scott loves the wild horses and people. I cannot praise his name enough for all his acts of kindness and gifts of love. He himself was a warrior battling cancer. He knows what is like to be on the other side where help has stepped in for him. Scott Wilson, you are an amazing man of genuine quality and love. Thank you for all you do and continue to do! In my book, you are the connection to life, and life abundantly. Thank yo so much! Sincerely, Joanna O

$20K in the first year full time is way low estimate. If you work 350 days it’s just $57.14 a day. I think a FT RE photographer would earn much higher.

Those of the photography family who have had the opportunity to shoot 4x5 inch sheet film in field, and view cameras know that Full Frame is not a "myth" the larger the light capture the more detail and the less grain (in digital world, noise). The size of the sensor may not be a great big issue if most of your photography is electronically displayed, but if you print, and if you sell prints, and in particular LARGE prints (30x40, 40x60,etc,) the size of the sensor can be critical.

As a long time watcher/listner of This Week in Photo, Behind the Shot, and Lens Shark podcasts, it was great to watch the replay of this episode. The new "round table" format was perfect for this particular topic, and it was great to have the different perspectives of all panel members as they shared their thoughts on the history and future of content creation. Well done, and I'll be encouraging other photographers and friends to give this a watch.

Some really good nuggets of wisdom in this show! Art vs documentary journalism, trends and story, dated vs timelessness. One of the biggest takeaways; if you have to explain your picture, you didn't meet your goal. This podcast would be a really good place to start a introduction into photography 101 and the "why" of taking pictures. Very well done! Thank you Steve and Fredrick!
