you have the pcm 41 in hardware yes, but the 42 sounds way better, that's why you dig the plugin so much.

I've messed with amp sims for awhile, so will try Blue Flame. I've been using Tonex (plug-in) which uses AI neural modeling, and it does a great job on the uppers. A key component for Tonex is adding a properly mic'ed amp model/capture from Amalgam Audio.

I'm listening on my laptop so not great conditions, but I could definitely hear the difference on the second example (the first was a bit too subtle for my ears, or perhaps it was the response of the speakers). I'm naturally very sceptical of this sort of technology but I have to admit it seems to do something good, at least sometimes! As an amateur photographer I can't help but notice a certain similarity to the idea of "vibrance" - a photo editing parameter that doesn't actually increase colour saturation, but does make the colours feel more separate.

wow that's very strange. it does sound significantly better on the mix bus but i don't understand why considering what the null tests sound like. very intriguing

I think plugins sound 2d. You can never hear the depth added by the hardware. but it's still better than nothing. After all, the hardware of this device is 4000 euros :)

@ such a crucial part they missed out on! This is the main reason why this isn’t on my mixbus / mastering channel. I use the SPL PQ instead combined with Spectre if I need that added saturation that’s a bit more targeted

@HOBBITSODYSSEYАй бұрын
@@kelvynification oh yes, I found the pentode to be very aggressive and brittle, I didn't like the triode much either as it is easy to create mud, its not clear and defined saturation like Angelo, its very sensitive and easy to overdo .Kind regards.

Howdy, a buddy just sent me this video as I, too, am setting up to do a video. Normally, I'm kept away from the public but I just find it interesting how the public uses my stuff and I want to show how I use it. It is like inventing a flamethrower and watching people use it to reheat their coffee. I'm very aggressive in how I use my stuff and the things I release to the public are often, um, tamed down :) It's like discovering that your grandmother makes your favorite cookies out of fireants and rusty razor blades. Yeah, that's why I'm hidden away. Anyway, thanks for the review. Robert Wainscott, Owner, Black Box Analog Design.

I like the idea of having a known SPL listening level, but either my phone's SPL meter is not even in the right ballpark, or I'm doing something wrong, because I can only hit 80dB SPL if I max out my monitor controller (which is a terrifying thing to do!). Pretty sure I'm gain-staging sensibly, because the main buses in my daw sit at around -18dBFS=0dB RMS, and those then go via mixer+outboard+master bus and come back mixed down into the daw at approx unity gain (about 8dB of digital headroom), then to monitor outs.

I am a Digital Performer user (for over 30 years now), no complaints! I've done a lot of all kinds of productions, ...recording, mixing, mastering, in and outboard processing, synths, midi etc and synced with film/video material! ...i must say, i don't need another DAW! Digital Performer is very flexible and customiseble and stabile! ...if a DAW crashes often, the reason is normally some of the (third party) plug in(s) on open project!

Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays (two of my favourite musicians) used Digital Performer for all those PM records I believe.

Thank you SO much for introducing me to MAAT, Mark. 🙏🏼 I knew within moments that FiDef was for me! i just got their Santa Cruz EQ & immediately felt the same way - i’ve plenty of great EQ’s but this thing somehow manages to add &/or remove the essential tweeks needed to the instrument, real or not, without it sounding EQ’d at all! + the 2BC multiCORR - Multiband Correlation plug is absolutely brilliant!!! There’s a good video out there about it but i’d love to get your take on it in relation to the jazz/prog soundstage. Shanti.~*

I know you said you need to chain plugins together to get similar effects, but I'd like to point out that Bitwig has Transient, loud and even Harmonic split containers, so you just chuck a compressor on the the tail or the transient for instance, add and map some modulators, save the preset and you've got your more "advanced" compressor.

Thanks for all the comments! Just so you know, I have ADPTR Sculpt and Flux Solera. I tried to reproduce this same kind of precise upward compression on both of them. I couldn't get either of them close to what Dynamic Grading is able to do in this particular use case (snare ghost notes). Both Sculpt and Solera are great plugins and I use them both. But my experience is that Dynamic Grading can go farther. So it's very useful when I need that. Like on a very dense arrangement where ghost notes need to cut through.

@heronislandstudio80542 ай бұрын
ADPTR is great. But I wasn't able to get this amount of targeted upward compression with it. I mean it did a good job at that, but not to the degree that Dynamic Grading can do.
