TMG I is one of my favorite albums of all time. My favorite songs were Trapped, My Alibi and Wish You Were here. I always thought that the songs which were spelled in capital letters on the back of the CD were sung by Martin and songs which were in normal spelling were sung by Blades. Anyway, I've literally waited 20 years for this album and can't wait to listen to it. Physical release in Europe is due for September, Frontiers Records from Italy again, I think. Looking forward to listening to the actual CD.

Thanks for commenting! You know...it never occurred to me that the capitalization had any impact on who wrote/sung the songs...but it certainly could indicate song writing credits? Honestly this is a little bit of a Japanese thing too: You'll often see songs with English titles completely capitalized. I hope you enjoy the second album! I honestly never thought that we were going to get one!

This is a great review/breakdown of the original Splatterhouse! Being an avid horror fan when it comes to both movies and video games, I have always love the Splatterhouse franchise and feel it's such a shame that this franchise is so short lived, with only the two sequels, Japanese only Nes spin off and the 360/PS3 remake. What I've always liked about the original Splatterhouse wasn't so much the goofiness of the characters or bosses, but the atmosphere. The music in particular certainly takes inspiration from a lot of Italian horror movies and it works so perfectly in making certain segments so eerie or unsettlingly intense when the game suddenly jumpscares you, such as fighting your doppelgänger in the hall of mirrors segment.The game has a good balance of knowing when to catch you off guard with many simple tricks or audio cues that always makes the game a delight to replay. Also, i will agree with you that both the difficulty and hit boxes in this game are unfair. Especially the segment that you mention with the 'bubble' creatures before engaging with the Heart boss or when encountering Biggy Man or the Mutant Jenifer fight which certainly comes down to pattern memorisation and positioning to avoid the small window of attacks. In the end though, I will always appreciate the Splatterhouse franchise and one day hope that a 2D remake/remaster someday get's released. Or at the very least a HD collection of all 4 original titles for modern consoles.
@BClarkOMPКүн бұрын
I really like that original game in particular, even if the hit boxes are a bit off! Wanpaku Graffiti isn't too far away and I can't wait because I think that may be my favorite! It would be GREAT to have Splatterhouse back in a more meaningful way, wouldn't it? That 360 game was just...ugh. I'd certainly take an HD collection! Glad you enjoyed the video!

Personally felt like at least some of "I'm a Controversy" felt like commentary of the response of older/more conservative ppl of japan to "Ussewa" given the heavily anti corpo office workoholic life. Treating her like some bad influence, when for 1 she was more voicing the general attiude of the youth wanting work & life ballance. 2 She just sang a song. But of course keeping those points in mind the song didn't have to be personal to her but like you said more commentary on being an artist/celebrity
@BClarkOMP24 күн бұрын
You certainly could be right about this! That theme is VERY obvious in that song, so it certainly wouldn't surprise me if that kind of a reaction came from that song being so popular. I haven't researched it too deeply, and I was planning on doing so when I eventually do a video on Kyougen!

It really warms me to see people celebrating this band. The Yellow Monkey came to me during an extremely difficult time in my life, I don’t want to say “they saved my life” or anything like that out loud for fear of sounding over dramatic, but their music and story became a real source of strength for me… so, thank you so much for spreading the word! @BClarkOMP27 күн бұрын
I knew you in particular would have something to say about the continue screen, since we've talked about it before! 😁 Yeah I definitely don't think this is BETTER than the NES game at all...I'd honestly rather go back and play that one. But I do think it's super interesting that they had a multi-pronged strategy to just like...come at people on all fronts with Ninja Gaiden?
@muragaru55328 күн бұрын
I honestly hate this game. I hate how it looks. I hate how it plays. I don't enjoy the music. I don't really know why it seems to receive the warmth it does from people, but that pack-in situation in the NA is a likely reason why. Kodama having a hand in it is something I always forget, but that's more so because I instantly think of her work on the Phantasy Star series and Skies of Arcadia.
@BClarkOMP27 күн бұрын
The music is especially is really just a bunch of dirges? It's a very odd choice for a soundtrack! I think the pack-in choice HAS to be the reason why! I certainly grew a little bit more affection for this than I had before but honestly...it's nowhere near the top of the beat 'em ups list at all! I don't think anyone really associates Kodama with this at all that much tbh, but more the titles you mentioned. I just happened to remember her saying something about this, so I dug up video footage to prove it!

This is a great Arcade game that certainly help elevate the Ninja Gaiden franchise, along with the iconic NES titles. Much like the NES titles, this is also a frustratingly tough game to play though and was certainly one of those titles back in the day that i remember seeing very little of due to dying very quickly on the first stage....and yes! That Game Over screen absolutely terrified me as a kid!
@BClarkOMP29 күн бұрын
Right?! Truly it's stuck with me ever since I played it! And yeah, I was surprised to go back and see just how hard each of these Ninja Gaiden games were...but in completely different ways! Tecmo certainly had an interesting brand strategy for Ninja Gaiden!
@shimsham628 күн бұрын
@@BClarkOMP The Ninja Gaiden franchise is similar to that of the Double Dragon franchise. With Tecmo making an interesting collection of titles that depict the iconic Ninja throughout the years. Just like the Double Dragon series, Ninja Gaiden is another victim of being milked too much and quickly being dumped soon after. I feel that Ninja Gaiden could have a resurgence, similar to titles such as Ninja Warriors etc. With either a new pixel/art style and the right passion could certainly bring it back from the dead.
@BClarkOMP27 күн бұрын

Really enjoy your channel, belt-scollers are among my favourite genres. They're a great showcase for sprite design even when mechanics let them down. Altered Beast felt like it prioritised visuals even back in the day, but I still got a kick out of it. Had no idea the famicom version existed, so that's fun to learn about!
@BClarkOMPАй бұрын
Thanks so much for watching, I'm glad you're enjoying it! And I absolutely agree with your sentiment about belt-scrollers (obviously)! It's been very interesting to see so far which one of these games really prioritized visuals (as you said) versus putting gameplay more up front. Not that the gameplay in Altered Beast is BAD, but yeah...it's nothing super crazy or inventive and it gets by mostly on "look at how big these sprites are! WOW!" Yeah the Famicom version was a real trip! I do kind of like it and feel like I want to clear how to clear it more effectively in the future, but you really do have to reset your expectations versus any other version of Altered Beast!

Altered Beast is a great game, both with its Arcade original and the console port for the Megadrive that I remember enjoying a ton as a kid. The whole dark fantasy concept, transformation scenes and impressive large sprites certainly made it a stand out at the time. It's just a shame that this was such a short lived franchise with no real sequels and a dark edgy mid 2000s remake that was exclusively released in only Japan and Europe.

As a fan something I find really appealing about this game (besides all the original footage) is being able to control the camera not even to look around but to stay focused on one member for a whole performance.
