Thank you, Sam! Inspiring and very useful information. Unfortunately, it's not the kind of video that will compete with celebrity garbage or MrBeast, but this is true food for the brain. Keep up with the videos. I'm watching almost all of them.

So insightful, so inspiring... Thank you very much. I read a lot as well (one non fiction book per week) and as you said : Books shape you. They transformed me. You quote some of my favorite authors (Neil Postman and Jonothan Haidt) so for the first time I comment (I watch...sorry "taste and enjoy" all of your videos 😉.) I just want to complete your Neil Postman quotation at the beginning of the video extracted from "Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business" with the last sentence of the book foreword....so important : "This book is about the possibility that Huxley , not Orwell , was right"… Thank you !

i remember reading this article last week or so and it was the first time i read something on substack (i usually don't read articles) because i saw it on my email from your newsletter. it just hits me and realise that the synthesizers of the internet are the saviour of humanity because it's their job to break through the noise, seek the truth from slower content (books, articles, etc), synthesize and condense it then give it to the dopamine culture people. "we are drowning in information while starving for wisdom, the world henceforth will be run by synthesizers, people able to put together the right information at the right time, think critically about it and make important choises wisely." - E. O. Wilson

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 *🧠 Understanding Personal Knowledge Management* - Personal Knowledge Management involves tools like Obsidian, Roam, Logseq, etc. - The concept is to build a second brain for better workflow and effectiveness. - It can lead to sophisticated procrastination if not used effectively. 02:01 *🤯 Effects of Personal Knowledge Management* - Creating complex note-taking systems can make you feel smart but might not improve your work. - Chasing the idea of the perfect system leads to an endless cycle of seeking optimization. - Simply collecting information without utilizing it for output is not productive. 05:27 *🚫 Overcoming Personal Knowledge Management Procrastination* - Personal Knowledge Management is not work but an aid to work. - Trusting your brain for insights and being project-based in note-taking can help. - Improving work capacity before focusing on the perfect note-taking system is crucial. you made me realize I was thinking so much about my note-taking for my worlbuilding, that instead of thinking about how to the magic world, or the characters or the plot, I was thinking of the perfect, prettiest most functional notebook and how to get it (I live in central america and I wanted a disc bound notebook with pretty sturdy pages, that in itself is costly but it's even MORE costly for the shipment), so you saved me a lot of time AND money, I can use a folder and bond paper, and like you said, stick to it 6 months and focus on the project, not in the studying

8:00 I watched a video yesterday from a channel called Heimler's History Teachers titled "Teaching Students TIME MANAGEMENT"- which was actually about teaching students to accept that our time as humans on this world is finite, and that we can't do everything we want to do.

What a great video, I will write a page in obsidian about it... How does this change when the work is education? I'm taking classes online, taking and reviewing notes actually *is* part of the work. I need to think about how to identify non-productive PKM time, and catch myself when I've been nerd sniped by an unsolvable optimization puzzle, because that happens often! I think your third point, keeping everything tied to a specific project with a concrete goal, is probably what I need to focus on most for this.

Thanks for this, I needed this as I was about to dive into PKM *AGAIN* even though I had the same realisations as you have demonstrated. I learned that I only need a notebook with a search function and nothing else. No fancy software needed!

As always, practical, down to earth, BS free content. As an Idealist, I find it hard to walk from theory to practice, I can build sophisticated plans in my head, yet few of them got executed. For me it's a delibrate practice to get my hands dirty with crude facts instead of living in a state of overthinking and overtheorising.

I think you're missing a few points here. Do you make 10,000 a month that means you have to get four new clients. By the end of 3 months you'll have 12 client which could become very complex when servicing them each month. Most clients under these circumstances will have multiple issues and want to contact you several times a month

I think this is my one of first time writing a comment on youtube, most times i just dont find the reason to do but i just wanted to thank you for this video, video about reading and learning loop and obsidian and perfectionism(This one is my favorite and i can say it changed my life). I am a long time follower of big youtubers of simply saying self help with milion of views like Ali Abdal or Alex Harmozi e.t.c but when not long time ago i found your channel, i can say you spoke something that this big famous youtubers never spoke about and i found your content very different but at the same time i can say more helpfull so i was suprise that you only have that much subsribers. You are really a knowledgeable and wise guy and i wish you your channel blowing and of course the best with your youtube career. Again, thank you very much for your content

8:32 this reminded me of the art of dying quote by bruce lee we need to learn to accept death in a way to move forward i'm currently in the middle of making a video about procrastination about starting youtube channel i'm now realising that i've wasted so much time doing little things around the work (courses, tutorials, books, podcasts, optimisation routines) but the truth is that we just need to DO THE WORK i enjoy your content very much i haven't come across another youtuber like you who is willing to say unorthodox things in the now overly autistic optimisation self improvement entrepreneurship space

You’ve nailed it again, Sam: A habit of neurotic over-optimisation, while spinning your wheels - stuck in the ‘learning loop’ - is to be avoided like a dose of the clap. If I may add a third dopamine-laced habit to avoid getting sucked into, which is Gear Acquisition Syndrome (“GAS, because more kit is always the answer”). I’ve been there, done that, and got the Amazon order book to prove it! 😂 Another excellent video, and a timely reminder… “Do The Work!” 👊😎

Hi Sam, I have a request and I hope you can see my comment! I have the exactly same path of finding my PKM or a home for my second brain. Then I settled down on Obsidian and was obsessed with it for my PKM, but found it hard and unpleasant to host and organize my projects, so I used Notion for that purpose. After spending so munch time building it, I still don’t feel right, and recently I have rebuild my productivity system just like yours! I just found your video explaining how you build your productivity system over these three apps, but it’s two years ago, I am wondering if you have evolved your craft setting or your system today? You must have gained a lot of new insights of using this system, could you make a new video sharing your productivity system now and your settings for CRAFT? Thank you so much.

Glad I was recommended this video. I was thinking about getting one of these systems and then I remembered Ive already done good work just by taking notes in a basic text files named after the books I was reading. Yes it means remembering which books I encountered certain ideas in, but it also means the process is simple and Im not expending energy organizing those notes outside of my actual writing.
