Your yellow plants are desperately short on iron. You make it clear you prefer a hands off approach but those plants are just neglected. Good gardeners pay attention to what their plants tell them and respond accordingly. Anybody can just toss pineapple crowns in dirt and get a couple fruits down the road. A healthy pineapple patch looks very different than these crowded yellow plants in tiny pots

I got 1 the other day. I'm in North Fla. After 3 days, I've got 6 or 7 very small bugs. It's not going to work good. It's only 600volts. Needs to be 2000 plus to do good

I now grow corn during the shorter days of the year here in south Florida. Once we approach the longer days of the year it’s impossible to keep the caterpillars in check. They crawl to the plants every night from afar. I know this because I check the plants daily and squish every single caterpillar, only to find fully grown ones munching away at the plants the very next day. This was an everyday thing during the longer days of the year. Bt did not help in summer unless I sprayed it every day. In winter I still get caterpillars but far less often and they’re easier to control.

I have army worm issues and I do plant peaches and cream. I use Dr Bonners and neem and I hit them every week. I plant corn in late Feb. I have had a few good crips and it's always from early planting. Don't use dawn because it's a heavy detergent and it ruins your wax coating on your plant and make it susceptible to disease

No chance without spinosad every 2 weeks and bt in between starting from the minute they sprout. Here in southwest FL with sand you have to water daily with dilute 1/8-1/4 strength high nitrogen liquid fertilizer like miracid or Envy. Otherwise it will tassel at 1 foot and your ears will be super tiny. This method works but anything less will be a failure. I’ve had no luck at all during rainy season as the spinosad gets washed off and the fertilizer gets flushed away. Also NEVER mix types of corn or your efforts will be completely wasted as the crop will taste terrible. Corn genetics are a completely understood science that us gardeners should leave up to the scientists. Good luck and take care Buddy.

I live in Florida too and I have a gardening channel, if you are interested. I grow organically. I have grown sweet corn for years. They are a heavy feeder for sure. I do not use any kind of pesticide. I literally walk through the garden every day and smash the worms or beetles. Leaving the worm or beetle there seems to deter the insects from coming near that small area.

When they let them driy is because if a plant has been given a harsh conditions it reproduce to live its offspring be hind. It is one way of letting it develop suckers around its body and cut into segments for propergation

What do you do with mature plants that have already fruited and have no more pups. They are green and healthy but they stop fruiting. Will they ever fruit again?
@djxkon
@djxkon Жыл бұрын
They only produce one time... and then of course pups will produce, if the mother stops producing pups, it's just a waste of space at that point, but I'd give it at least 12 full months to make that decision

Works great for orchids too! I've only started using this method, but it works like a dream. Anything that works this well on my temperamental tomatoes and doesn't require paying for expensive fertilizer is a winner in my book.

I had success with sweet corn this year and it was using the three sisters method - corn, beans and squash. Corn is a grass so it sucks up a lot of nutrients. By planting beans around each corn stalk, you’re feeding each stalk throughout the growing season. This keeps the plant strong and it doesn’t attract as many pests. Two of my cornstalks got caterpillars, so I sprayed them with BT two or three times. The problem disappeared and we had a great corn harvest!

Made the mistake of ordering sweet corn online. It came from Montana. Florida sun and critters just ate up the leaves. Looking for a sub tropical heirloom corn that can handle the heat and sun. Captain Jack’s spray sounds like a winner. Thanks.
