A very good steel coaster for the early eighties David. I think the first one that I ever rode was the Black Widow at Riverside Park in Agawam, Mass. Now Six Flags New England of course. Here is a video that I stumbled upon last night. I rode the Comet 57 times in one day back in 1985. There was no one at the park. I had an ACE jersey on and the guy running the coaster liked it. So he let me ride it 57 times in a row. I kept changing seats at the loading platform. Here is a good video of someone who snuck into the park a few years after it closed. Before the lift hill collapsed from the snow. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoG8XmxmrtN0pJo ~ Rob/Boston

It's really surreal and sad seeing a closed down park with the rides still there just gradually rotting away. Thanks for sharing. I have ridden Nemesis at Alton Towers 64 times in a day but when I marathoned on the Big Dipper at Blackpool in 2000 I rode it all day and all night so I have no idea how many goes that was!

Last week, Japanese scientists explaced... placed explosive detonators at the bottom of Lake Loch Ness to blow Nessie out of the water. Sir Cort Godfrey of the Nessie Alliance summoned the help of Scotland's local wizards to cast a protective spell over the lake and its local residents and all those who seek for the peaceful existence of our underwater ally.

Back in the 90s, I had a interesting experience when riding the Raging Wolf Bobs. Went full circuit around the track and coasted right through the station. It barely even felt like the brakes were even applied at the end of the run. Got to ride again with zero wait time! 🙂

1:24 The WORST OF ALL INVERSIONS on any roller coaster in the world "The entrance to the corkscrew looked like a HORRIBLY TWISTED piece of track, with NO precision engineering whatsoever. It felt like I was experiencing a train crash. The pain and jarring continued for what felt like an eternity before we hit the brakes, with everyone on board breathing a sigh of relief." -Richard Banister

I have a question I hope you can clarify, David. In the beginning of the video, the speaker mentions that Rutschebanen was made to plans by an English engineer by the name of Thompson. I, of course, assume he means LaMarcus Adna Thompson, whom I have always known to be American. However, when I look him up on Wikipedia, it lists him first as being born in Edinburgh, Scotland, then in the text under "Early Years", it says he was born in Jersey, Licking County, Ohio (about 2 1/2 hour drive from me). So, was he born in Ohio after he was born in Scotland? Or before?😂 I'm truly confused!
@davidjellis
@davidjellis 11 күн бұрын
To be honest I am not sure either...he is generally considered American based on what I could see online, but whether he had any connections to Edinburgh I am not really sure...either way he would be Scottish not English, but I really don't know. It might have been designed by an English person working for LaMarcus Thompson's company perhaps...the design is credited to the LaMarcus Thompson Company on RCDB but who knows if an English person worked for that company?

I believe we rode it in the summer of 02... waited 3 hrs to get on this beast. Absolutely fantastic ride. The worst part about this ride was that it was in the back corner of the park and scenery wise it was just god awful. It felt like it was placed on a barren waste land. Then again I remember the entire park felt that way. Not like being at Cedar Point.
