Any idea on why the ice is blue?

Google will have the answer - but in simple terms the colour you see is based on what colours are absorbed and what colours are reflected by the ice...compressed ice absorbs longer wavelengths of colours, such as red and yellow, whereas colours of shorter wavelengths like blue are reflected - so that's why you see blue!
