@@TheCanadianBubba Bob (the gentleman who created this rivet press) would like to add a few more details for you. "The guy operating the press control is watching a pressure gauge. The first “Yup” means we're lined up and to start the press. When the target pressure is attained the operator stops pumping. The pause is the press retracting. The second “Yup” is to stop the retraction. The press is stopped partially extended to cut down the wasted travel time doing the next rivet."

We are still waiting for the results of the boiler survey to learn more about what will be needed on the boiler. All of the rivets on the tender will be set by hand. Check out how many rivets that involves here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rofYoa2IgL5nl6M

I remember watching a Mark 1 video about steam on the Maine Central Railroad that had no narration but had classic footage and sound of Maine Central steam at its finest towards the twilight years and even to the very end correct me if I’m wrong but if I remember correctly I remember seeing footage towards the end of the video of 470 being reversed to her display track and her boiler still had a full head of steam but she was pushed by a different train for safety I assume ceremoniously they kept her under steam before she got to her resting place before her fire was dropped if this was a completely different engine let me know

I noticed that 470 has a cutout in the smoke box, hinting at a Coffin Feed Water Heater. How much are you guys going to use it, and how do you guys plan to go about removing it from the smoke box itself for restoration and cleaning? Also, how much work have you guys done to the frame? It looks in pretty good shape for something that sat outside for a few decades. I wish you all the best of luck with the restoration!
@newenglandsteam9 ай бұрын
470 was equipped with a Coffin feedwater sometime later in its career. Because of the type of service we anticipate, the feedwater heater will not be used. The heat exchanger in the smokebox will have to be removed by using an Air-Arc torch. We will use a second injector that will replace it, and it is what 470 originally had. It will be much simpler to maintain. Regarding the frame, it does appear to be in good condition, but will be inspected in detail when the time comes.
