I feel bad the the Maine Central Railroad Retired, but I was very sad that 470 left Waterville but it will be great having it on the tracks again.

It is not just the railroad that have changed and have lost public acclaim. Local radio broadcasts are almost a thing of the past, too. Most "local" radio stations just do programming from distant locations. It is hard to find real local radio news as was the case here. Many radio stations don't even have one local reporter anymore.

I have the original bell off the 470. Was gifted to my father as fire chief volunteer services. Would love to know more about it sometime.

Must have been off another engine. 470 still has her bell.

@@KelanTheRailfanProductions Could have been. I know 469's headlight and whistle ended up in Lawrence Brown's possession at his house in Belgrade. Before he died, he gave it to a friend who recently sold them at auction. Not sure what happened to any other parts from her.

Love the old steamers as I was born just before their demise and the diesels took over. Plus my dad worked for Grand Trunk and MEC as a telegrapher for many years. Too bad we don't still use steam, it was cheaper to run than diesel depending on the price of water.
