Suicide is evil. A beautiful song was used during a scene of humanity's demise/suicide. I get that some Eastern and Gnostic traditions portray the end of individuality/merging into a collective spirit asthe ultimate goal, but even if that is one's belief, the end of Evangelion involves the murder/suicide of humanity.

Lyrics: I know, I know I've let you down I've been a fool to myself I thought that I could live for no one else But now, through all the hurt and pain It's time for me to respect The ones you love mean more than anything So, with sadness in my heart Feel the best thing I could do Is end it all and leave forever What's done is done, it feels so bad What once was happy now is sad I'll never love again My world is ending I wish that I could turn back time 'Cause now the guilt is all mine Can't live without the trust from those you love I know we can't forget the past You can't forget love and pride Because of that, it's killing me inside It all returns to nothing It all comes tumbling down Tumbling down, tumbling down It all returns to nothing I just keep letting me down Letting me down, letting me down In my heart of hearts I know that I could never love again I've lost everything, everything Everything that matters to me matters in this world I wish that I could turn back time 'Cause now the guilt is all mine Can't live without the trust from those you love I know we can't forget the past You can't forget love and pride Because of that, it's killing me inside It all returns to nothing It just keeps tumbling down Tumbling down, tumbling down It all returns to nothing I just keep letting me down Letting me down, letting me down It all returns to nothing It just keeps tumbling down Tumbling down, tumbling down It all returns to nothing I just keep letting me down Letting me down, letting me down Ah, ah, ah, ah Tumbling down Tumbling down Tumbling down Ah, ah, ah, ah Letting me down Letting me down Letting me down Ah, ah, ah, ah Tumbling down Tumbling down Tumbling down Ah, ah, ah, ah Letting me down Letting me down Letting me down
I wonder why they don't sing this song in Japanese.

Can't stop thinking about how, at the middle of a musical hiatus, Utada came back to compose for Evangelion 3.0 and even went for this performance. She lost her mother in that hiatus, and then drops this song which was a huge turn from what her music used to be before her loss, while coincidentally it represents the movie's characters on the huge turn the franchise took with that movie too; and feels like an insight of what her change did to her songwriting skills, right on time for EVA's change too. She gives me power on believing you can return from big changes, and apply those changes in your favor, even if it means having a big part of your career's identity changed. The movie itself is just as hard hitting for all the sudden changes experienced, with Kaworu's message to keep on despite the shock.
