I have a 2002 dual cab lux, 2inch body lift, 5inch extended shackles. I am going to lower the torsion bars as much as I can to clear the tyres. The ride with the torsion bars wound up as high as you can gives you the worst ride possible, it's like driving a tractor with no suspension over logs. I just fitted a 2inch lift kit hoping it would be lower and drive smoother. The rear shackles are now 2inch instead of the 5inch extended shackles I had on it. I took it in for a wheel alignment with my advice to lower the front end but the dumb shits raised the torsion bars.

My winch got stuck and after trying multiple unsuccessful ways of unstucking it I followed what you did and it worked. Amazing. Also, I like how the video goes straight to the point. Thanks.

You are genius! The ten rotations really helps take inconsistency out of the equation. Worked front and rear on my 12 Silverado w trutrac rear and open diff front.

I'm considering this done at a mechanic store, how much should this likely cost, if done at a shop? parts and work, basically stop-in-pay and drive-out. I would be more than thrilled to have you do it, but I'm in Orange County, CA

Depending on the chemical make up of your locktite, it can and will damage plastic. Definitely would not recommend adding loctite to fasteners securing into plastic.

How many miles were on the truck when you did this? I’m doing the same front on my truck. For the rear I’m trying to decide between add-a-leaf and a replacement leaf pack.

Good morning! This is the best video about tire deflator! The camera position showed the entire process clearly and sufficiently for understanding and the explanations were perfect. Very didactic.

I think there’s something missing from the wheelbase, and, by association, track width discussion. That is suspension and drive train packaging. If an axle is narrow in proportion to the frame, it’s hard to package the suspension and steering with good performance and tight steering angles. Same goes for length. It’s harder to package long arms, flex tolerant drive shafts, doublers, etc into a short frames. The proportions of these parts don’t scale linearly with vehicle size. So, when you get a little bigger with similar length transfer cases etc, it gets easier to make everything work well with reasonable angles. As a personal example, I mocked up a 61” wms to wms Dana 44 and decided it was going to cause a compromise steering or suspension, if not both. I switched to a 67” housing that gave me enough space for long links and coil springs without having tires trying to fight stuff for space. Wheelbase has the same compromises around shaft angles and link mounting. If you have a little length, it’s easier to get anti properties right and keep the u-joints alive. I’m not necessarily convinced that there’s even a steering advantage in smaller length variations - at least when RCVs may be involved. A little extra length to get the geometry right and clear out the wheel well may allow a tighter steering angle with good suspension geometry. Clearly, these trade offs are very vehicle specific, but I frequently see great results in both custom suspensions and good OEM designs like an FJ80 when there was a little length to work with.

Interesting observation, I generally agree. I personally like a hair over the golden zone - so long as you’ve got the break over angle. My FJ80 on about 3” of lift and 35s (112” wb iirc) felt like it flowed over terrain with better stability than most shorter wheelbase vehicles. Same for an extended cab 2500hd whenever break over angle wasn’t a problem. In general, I’ve found that I don’t need as extreme of proportions on a little wider and longer vehicle. Yeah, breakover angle suffers, but an improvement in the absolute clearance usually makes up for it in most places I wheel. The result is that the slightly longer and probably wider vehicle has more balanced proportions and feels more stable. I’m not saying go huge, just that there’s something to be said for a little bit bigger footprint that’s running a few tire sizes larger, and has a couple extra inches under the skid plates, but has a proportionately lower center of gravity.

Not sure why RCI refuses to make the front skid go all the way to the plastic piece that connects to the bumper like the TRD and OEM SR5. They leave that gap exposing your radiator etc to salt, mud, water and everything else. They used to make a piece for that gap ($60 extra) but it disappeared from their website. It's only a couple/few inches.

The oil level is below the top of the pan, so there is no need to drain the oil. It is much easier to remove the “dog house” for the RMS, replace the RMS and the dog house gasket. Wham, bam, thank you ma’am and cured!
