There is no sound like the Perkins indirect injection engines,these 4-203 engines were brilliant in their day and lasted years if the oil and filters were changed regularly,there must be thousands and thousands working around the world today,they were built to last and they’ve certainly done that,I had a 4-108 that I fitted to a Commer PB van that had been converted into a motor home,doubled the mpg of the Gutless petrol engine I removed and pulled like a train when I fitted an overdrive gearbox out of a Humber Scepter which I converted to fit the Commer,the overdrive worked on 2nd 3rd and 4th gear effectively giving me a 7speed gearbox,it left the VW campervan air cooled for dust in hilly areas and achieved 45mpg,what a willing little workhorse that engine was,I did thousands of miles in it before corroding away before my very eyes. I sold it to someone who had a later van without the rust problem and he swapped everything over to his van.

Eses motores ... son herederos de los semi-diesel....... niguno lo sabe.. aquelas tapitas de trés bolones ubicadas en la cabeza junto del escape sont las tapas de las camaras de combustion y no son areferecidas ... son el punto caliente permanente que ayuda/arranca la combustion!!!.. una technologia ancestral y ultra sobre passada!!!... Matematicamente el arranque de eses motores es como impossible!!!.. La inyecion directa mejoro (bastante????...) ... pero como no pusieran velas de aquecimiento finalmente no cambio mucho el asunto... Trabaje unos 40 años en esa marca!!!!..... saludos...

I fail to see how a modern, disposable electronically controlled high speed motor that uses 3 or so litres per hour less than an old langzaamloper is better for the environment. Yes it's cleaner and has lower emissions but will it still be running in 40 years time, and if so, how much money will have been spent on parts and filters and belts etc? More than will have been spent one of these old machines, by several orders of magnitude. How is it better for the environment that something is to be thrown away before the environmental cost of its manufacture can be properly amortised? It makes no sense to me.

Hallo! Das gute Stück was Ihr da habt ist ein 170S in den irgendwer einen Motor von einem 170D eingebaut hat. Schaut mal auf das Typenschild im Motorraum. Nur der 170S hatte die außen liegenden Heckdeckelscharniere und auch die doppelten Lüftungskanäle gab es nur bei dem 170S. Auf dieser Seite ist meist auch keine Heizung mehr weil der Dieselfilter zuviel Platz einnimmt. Trotzden viel Spaß mit dem seltenen Fahrzeug!

very nice be careful though with diesel engine fumes, when filming close to the chimney, they might cause cancer How come there is always, in the rythm of this kind of engine, some main thud we can discern, every cycle of the whole gang of cylinders (or so it seems) ?

Looks like a 12-volt battery around 1:30. Did all diesel-powered models including the prewar 260D have 12-volt systems (at a time when 6-volt was the rule)?

per toeval ontdekt, ik heb ooit zo'n boot gehad, vol osmose, maar voer prima. ik dacht echter dat het een varuna was . het zal zo een zijn geweest, het was een zaadnoordijk boot , dat stond er wel in.
