I love your details and of course video on the solar pics made with this scope. Much appreciated!

Stunning images. What camera did you use? What was the setup used to capture the totality phase of the eclipse
@sol_man6 ай бұрын
Thank You! I used the dmk au618 and asi 1600mm for the Ha shots and a DSLR and the EON 72mm scope for the eclipse with a white light filter.

You show a solar image at the start but then switch to Jupiter. Have you successfully used AsiVideostack for solar?
@sol_man9 ай бұрын
Yes I have and it works well. I try different stacking programs on all my shots and I pick the one I think looks best. i also ude photoshop and Topaz to do final editing.

When I try to drag an Avi file into Asivideostack it crashes. Any idea why?
@sol_man9 ай бұрын
How large are your files, that might be the problem.
@bhastro99599 ай бұрын
@@sol_man - 4 gig, and yes it does seem to accept smaller files.

What capture settings did you use for Jupiter? I’ve been trying to get this for months now but all I get is a fuzzy blob with barely visible bands and every time I save a file of Jupiter it registers it as Saturn?
@sol_man10 ай бұрын
What scope are you using and how good is the seeing? If you have bad seeing you will not be able to get a good clear shot. I use the max gain of 300 to try and get the fastest frame rate and only take as many frames I could get in 60 seconds for Jupiter and Mars, you can go longer for Saturn. What software are you using to capture? All the software usually has a place where you can setup the naming and where it is saved. In asicap go to the top right of the page and click on the gear symbol. A page with come up with all solar system objects, click on the object you want to image and it will make a folder for it and the name of the object will be in the name of the file.

Skywatcher 10inch Dobsonian with a ZWO ASI224MC using the same programs you are, I’m also using a 2x Barlow and 7 exposure with 140 gain. I stack 20% of it.

Hi Chuck. Great video, I just purchased a LS60MT and am looking forward to an adventure. Can I trouble you to comment on the mount you use and your processing?
@sol_man Жыл бұрын
Thanks Marc, I'm using an I Optron pro 30. i also usd a Orion Skyview pro in the past. I stack with Autostakert and sharpen with registax then take it to photoshop or Affinity photo adding color anduse a little noise reduction with Topaz. Mono cameras do the best job for solar.

Hi Chuck. Great video. Can you tell me how similar or different the visual views look through an eyepiece vs the images that you have here?
@sol_man Жыл бұрын
mjbaransky, Thank you! I use a 8-24 zoom eyepiece, with my 60mm scope, using the 8mm setting the disc covers the whole viewing area of the eyepiece including the prominences. You can see both the surface detail and proms. I get a very sharp view. It is just as pleasing to look as it is to photograph.I would highly recommend this scope.
@mjbaransky Жыл бұрын
@@sol_man I am glad to hear this... Are you doublestacking or no?
@sol_man Жыл бұрын
@@mjbaransky No not double stacking. When I first bought the scope I was double stacking but the double stack was a 50mm in front of a 60 mm and it would cut down on the brightness. I sold it after a few years. I found I didn't need it. I think now they have the 60mm stack so that might be brighter.
@mjbaransky Жыл бұрын
@@sol_man side question: do you think you would prefer the 80mm? I know these things can be cost prohibitive. And the 80 kind of is I would say for me, however I would rather save up than buy and replace. Curious of your thoughts if you had the opportunity to get the 80.
@sol_man Жыл бұрын
@@mjbaransky Yes I would want a larger scope, but the sun is really active now so if I had a chance to buy 60 now and trade up later I would do it. Solar scopes don't loose their value that much.

Thanks for this. I agree, definitely want to see save as TIFF or PNG soon. Seems crazy to buy a good ZWO camera for quality then lose much of the clarity through JPG compression.
@sol_man Жыл бұрын
Thanks for commenting. I think they will add this eventually but most of the advanced planetary images would not even try this software.
@davidrankin8427 Жыл бұрын
@@sol_man true, but if zwo are investing time to develop this software, they must have goals to not just be another player in this software market. Autostakkert and registax are great but they are old, hardly supported, and 2 separate process (3 if you add PIPP). A single pane of glass experience, even a simpler version could succeed, just needs a bit more features like png/tiff, etc
@sol_man Жыл бұрын
@@davidrankin8427 I've been using Astrosurface now for planetary and do most of the processing in Astrosurface. I do the final tweaking in Affinity photo and Topaz denoise or sharpen.

What is nicer to see ( visual) with a Lunt 60 mm single scope: surface detail or promminces? And why? Thanks.
@sol_man Жыл бұрын
Miertje, Visually I can see both with the single stack. I had a double stack and when using it I lost a lot of the prominences but the filaments showed up better. The double stack I had was the 50mm put in front of a 60mm scope so the brightness decreased. When I would take it to outreach programs everyone liked the single stack better. When using a 8-24 zoom eyepiece I can get a very detailed look at the surface detail and the prominences at 8mm and with the 1200 blocking filter. I haven't looked through one that had a matching 60mm double stack so I can't comment on that.
