I love how your "Robotic Game Board" looks like steampunk & Nixie tubes tech. 12 by 17 is a odd 'tile set' board size. I'm happy to see it's Not 10 by 10 boards!! (If you know, what I mean.) Myself a 24 by 24 is a small board size. If I tried to make one for myself, I would go for a 36 by 36 board (3x3 boards*), 48 by 48 board (4x4 boards) or maybe 36 by 48 board (3x4 boards) * well really use 8 boards with 1 empty board space & "Wis-War" rules 'rap-around-map'.

I think it would match the aesthetic and be easier for the robot to read if the cards used punch card holes.

Might a tiny tiny thin and soft matt/rubber bit help a touch with the CLANK it makes against the glass? I'm far from an expert on such things, but I'd think after a few hundred thousand hits in the centre, it'd weaken it a bit?

I don't know how closely this is based on RoboRally, but in that game robots and board pieces firing lasers is a big part of the game. I think a simple enough way to implement that would be to add an induction coil with an LED in the clanks, and a matching induction coil around the movement magnet. The permanent magnets should function as cores, making it pretty easy to pump enough power into the receiving coil to drive an LED. Pew-pews, and still no wires.
@ytec3d3 ай бұрын
It is definitely inspired by Roborally. It does have lasers, and the way the board shows this is by animating recoil on the firing robot. At 0:58 blue does fire a laser at red, but it shows poorly on video. I do like the idea of an LED in the barrel of each clank.
@MrTechblackdog3 ай бұрын
@@ytec3d FYI, if you place a wire coil around the magnet that moves/turns robot. wire coil can power wireless LED, to show laser fire. I have seen 'wireless LED kits' for Gundam models. P.S. I am a big fan of Roborally (1994). only one I did not like was Roborally with the 10' by 10' boards. that one "the turn order was F!!!!! & slow down the game really Bad!"

It's very neat, though it's very noisy. It sounds like it uses stepper motors for the two main axis. A regular motor with an encoder would maybe have been quieter. Also personally I don't like how it smacks into the board when it goes up at all, but maybe that's just me... I'd also have used a rack and pinion for the vertical axis. Aesthetically it's very good though!
@yetanotherdan3 ай бұрын
I personally like the clunkiness to it all. It hits that same spot for me that relay computers do. If you wanted to be quieter you can just use a little more expensive stepper drivers and it'll be completely silent, provided they chill with the raising of the magnet. Perhaps a quiet mode? But again, the sound really makes me happy. Needs like an old school Tommy robot grinding noise every so often.

I know it's been 8 years but I'm currently working on one now. I Just finished printing all the parts which took some time, as I only have one printer. One thing that I'm having an issue with is finding the 1 mm wire. That is listed on ytechs page, I'm not even exactly sure where that's supposed to go if I even find a wire.

Working on printing this now. Gonna take me a while, hope to get it done before my local con. However I found a put together video from someone that I think is this print, but they do not use a spring? That is listed on the parts page, so I am a little confused. They also don't do the rgb electronics. I don't plan to either, but trying to figure out what the spring is for so I know that I can just follow the other put together video.

Mine is a bit different but i need to figure out the controller part. right now i basically am using an arduino an RPI and a 3d printer motherboard, and i'm having problem sending the signal to the motion controls at the same time as the print head thus getting problems. I havent done the powder part, right now it's just a printer to print uv ink. i hacked apart a HP designjet
