The first two albums I *ever* owned were compilations - a Festival Records 20 Solid Hits (Vol II) that had Free, The Osmonds, Freda Payne, Cat Stevens and a whole bunch of Aussie bands on it and Motown Chartbusters Vol 3 that was just full of Motown classics. They have been on my shelf now for a collective 105 years. of course, Spotify has really effectively ended the reign of the compilation - you just tailor make 'em as long or as short as you like. I guess that's progress.
