I currently have a micro manager at the facility I am currently on contract at. Everyone hates him. Then to make this even better … everyone thinks he is making a Karen the lead tech. He is training her on things that the rest of the staff doesn’t get trained on. TG my contract ends this Friday. This has been a nightmare. I can’t even go to the bathroom without him looking all over and blowing up my phone and calling my emergency contact. Ridiculous

Managers who feel the need to micro-manage are probably not managing effectively at all. Poor management behaviour (of this type) may suggest an unhealthy workplace environment.
@Manager-8472Ай бұрын
Motivating employees (people) is assisted by a management understanding of human behaviour at work. The identification and support of relevant motivational affordances is a key management task. People are primarily moviated by the anticipation of payment for work performed/completed. However there are many secondary motivators that can help individuals to succeed. Some of these are common to each of us (including those related to human psychological needs) and others will vary by type etc. Recognising motivational needs and their order of priority can help a satisfactory employee become a great one - where the manager/organisation can help meet these needs in full or in part. This may include providing workplace opportunites to be creative or innovative to those who value this. The potential examples are almost endless as is the level of organisational success that may be achieved as a result.

A mix of management and leadership is required to encourage staff to follow. An effective manager is probably also an effective leader.

First of all, corporate world is quite different from education, health care and other sectors. Second, adequate salary is different across the world. People are still earning less than 5 dollars a day, so 200 dollars can be adequate in some countries, but not in others. And finally, workers with intrinsic motivation may bother bosses in some totalitarian countries or companies that are not flexible

My tips for a new manager are : Learn the system and the national and international standards and laws which apply. Be systematic, not situationalist. Recognise the role of industrial democracy in promoting continual improvement. Use your policy manual for training purposes.

Nearly every big company gives the employees numbers. H.R. lifeforms arrange job descriptions into little boxes. Each box is allocated a pay scale. The numbers are slotted into the boxes. This has the advantage that H.R. hardly ever has to think. If a number does exceptionally well, the number in its manager box is very limited in what it can do to reward the exceptional performer. So the exceptional performer leaves. In the end all the boxes are filled with mediocre performers who wonder why the company fails.

Ran a content creation business for a while back in the Pacific Northwest. My family and I moved to Vermont. Not a lot of business out here. So, I got a job at Walmart! I have a weird schedule since I have to be home during the day for my son. I have sales and management experience but I never behaved like I was too good for the job. Eight days in the man who hired me asked if I wanted to apply for a team lead (supervisor) position. Salary, $80k, 12 hour shifts. I turned in my CV and cover letter yesterday. Point is, keep trying stuff til you find your niche. Don’t step trying. I decided I want to become CEO of Walmart. Will update!

I’m currently assessing the company and determining how to approach my role. I find it challenging to assign tasks to colleagues who are much older than I am. Although I was hired as a technician, I have unexpectedly become a technical manager (AWP) for various reasons. I didn't question this change because I view it as both a challenge and an opportunity for growth. Your tips will be incredibly helpful, especially the "Knowing the Expectations" part. Thank you so much, Sir!

Keep the meeting light, informative, not for you to talk about your 90-day transformation vision! 1. Build trust - show that you are humble, willing to accept help and learn 2. Icebreaker - cheesy but useful to gather information, find the leader of the pack 3. Share - share your experience, where your ideas come from, your hobbies, let them see you as human, be in the spirit of learning 4. Ask questions - what should be left alone, what really needs to change here, what is the best/ worst thing about working here? Take notes, listen actively 5. Thank them - Thanks for hearing me out, thanks for having this chat 6. Closing note - What I intend to do is to have one-on-one talks with each and everyone of you in the coming weeks and I am hopeful we can get some insights as to how we operate, where we have issues or gaps, and what I can do to help you succeed. Do not say "my door is always open".

While I do agree that it is good advice to examine ourselves and ways that our own attitudes and behaviours may be contributing to the problem, I do not agree with this video's suggestion to help a manager "save face". One of the reasons that a manager may arrive late for a meeting would be poor time management and inefficiency with handling their own tasks. If I as their subordinate cover for them, not only does it mask the problem which may get worse due to this enabling, but it may cause me to miss out on a promotion when I could have been considered for their position. Or they may get a promotion based on perspective that I falsely created. Don't get me wrong. I have a great boss, and you had better believe that I have covered for him a few times when there were circumstances beyond his control. But your advice sounds codependent. Sorry.

I’m about 3 months into my management promotion. I’d say the things I have struggled with the most are: -Finding a balance between being too lax or too strict. The last manager was very lax and it has caused many issues. They are not used to being “managed” and I don’t want to change things too quickly and have people quit. -Becoming a manager to people who were once my equals and friends. It makes things very awkward and sometimes incredibly difficult to reprimand. -As I said, the last manager was not good, and the mess I’ve been left has been incredibly stressful.
@BerndGeropp4 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing this. Yes, finding the right balance can be tricky. So is leading former colleagues and friends. Maybe this advice will help you. Being a leader is not about being popular but being respected. Don't shy away from unpopular decisions if you think that it is the right call. Maybe some team members will be upset at first. But over time they will respect you for that. As long as you act consistently and don't play favorites. I wish you much success in your new leadership role.

GREAT VIDEO!. I was remembering some years with my worst boss, 1000% MICROMANAGER. The worst part of that period was that it seems to be part of that Company culture (old-fashioned I guess). I learn how NOT to be a boss (that was the learning of that job),I do have my issues, but I'm working on them in order to be a better leader. Regards from Monterrey /Mexico
