Great info ❤❤. Just bought my first camper from my buddy. 1970’s fleetwood prowler. His pops kept it covered and did his best to maintain it over the years. Solid deal for 800$. I parked on my new 2 acre property while I develop my land and build a house. I also scammed myself and bought a new Coleman thank god I dodged that bullet. 😅

Are you happy with the size of the excavator? Noticed you can still haul that one on a single axle trailer. Thank you for the great videos!

Yes, I have a 2500. It depends on what year your 1500 is. Just Google "Chevy Trailer Guide for Chevy 1500" make sure you enter the date of your vehicle. Chevy has all their payload and tow capacities in that guide. Hope that helps, thanks for watching!

Did you already have an inverter on your trailer? Di you need an inverter for rhe solar system to work? Im asking because my last trailer had an inverter and everytime i wanted to plug things into the AC oulets i had to turn on the inverter to oull from the batteries. When not plugged into AC power of course.
@ColoradoCamperman
@ColoradoCamperman 8 күн бұрын
No, we did not have an inverter built in. Our camper was built in 2010 and they were not installing inverters like they are now. We would plug a small 12 volt inverter into a 12 volt socket we had. Your setup sounds amazing! Lol, much better than our one outlet that could only run 120 watts. Thanks for watching.

NOT REALLY. If you really want to go off grid you need more panels and more batteries. I don't know why people cheap out and go half ass with solar. I see it all the time. I have a 1200 watt system and can run a electric heater or AC in the day time and have plenty extra left over for lights, water pump electric stove and fridge.Now theres no need for propane or electrical sites and no generator or smelly gas cans even if theres 4 cloudy days..

Our system worked great for us. We are recreational campers, for a 2 to 3-day trip, our system worked great. Obviously if you were going to be using your camper year round and/or are running high wattage appliances like you, you're going to need a larger system. Thanks for watching.

How much better did the 2500hd pull than your father in laws 1500. I have a 2015 1500 pulling a 8000lb trailer, just wondering if getting a 2500 would be worth the cost
@ColoradoCamperman
@ColoradoCamperman 8 күн бұрын
My father-in-law's 1500 did just fine. My 2500 was definitely more stable and had more power. So uphills and higher speeds, my 2500 did better towing. But, my 2500 has a larger engine, higher payload/towing capacity, and is 17 years newer. If your setup is working for you, I would stick with it. Thanks for watching!

@ColoradoCamperman my 1500 just got totaled I'm in the market for another truck. Probably 2015 or newer. The 2500hd are about 10k more but from what you said I think it will be worth it. That 1500 pulled "alright" but from what you said the 2500 is much better. What kind of mileage can I expect with no load

Before installing a new tank heater I always put them in the freezer with the wires hanging out for about an hour and then test them using a battery charger set to 12 volts. I clamp a meter around the positive wire of the heater, set the meter to DC amps to see if the heating pad will work which it did and the meter showed a little over 5 amps. I used the same 78 watt heating pad for the gray tank. Recpro and Facon appear to be the same even though they have different brand names. They are both the same size and watts.

Its about the same as those who haul 500 imperial gallons of water 💦 in the box of a heavy half ton, sure the drive tires are load rated...but the steering tires are barely touching the road. How can that be safe in the winter ❄️, but we meet them all the time.

My 27 ft Travel Trailer is a little heavy for my k1500 but does ride ok. It handles well but the pulling power is just not there. I pulled it over the pass at 36 mph, giving it all it had. If I could come up with a way of getting more pulling power. I hate to have to exchange my k15 for a k25. It's paid off. And if can avoid having to exchange my trailer for a smaller, lighter one. It's paid off to. I can't afford payments. Does anyone have any ideas?
@ColoradoCamperman

You could do some cheaper things like adding a cold air intake or dual exhaust. That will increase your horsepower, but you likely need more torque for better towing In that case, you could change your gears on your truck. Or swap out your transmission to a 6, 8 or 10-speed. I had a '95 Chevy 2500 with the 454. If it had a 6 or 8-speed transmission, it probably would have done a lot better going uphill. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

@ColoradoCamperman I have the dual exhaust with cats. I'm sure the cats bog it down a little. I also have slip differential posi rear-end. Will heavier gears work on a posi? Both differential and trans have been rebuilt. I wish I would have known at the time. Thanks for your feedback.

I haven't felt the need to yet. I've camped in it down to around freezing. With a warm sleeping bag, it's fine. There is condensation that builds up in cold temps though. If I did more cold weather camping, I probably insulate it for that reason.

Stay away from Rieco-Titan brand. My TC came with Rieco jacks, but the guys at this company charge an astronomical amount for ANY replacement parts. Their prices are so ridiculous that it's actually cheaper to buy the entire system, get the part you need, and try to resell the rest. For example, a replacement wireless remote costs $335.79 plus $20 shipping, and the tiny activation switch panel is $145.00, which is insane for $10 worth of material (a metal plate, LED, 3.5mm jack, and switch). I'm buying a full Atwood kit, minus the jacks, for less than $400 and it comes with two remotes. I’m done with pathetic Rieco-Titan and their ripoff BS.

Just my thoughts. Harbor Freight is saving money by NOT having a gauge/metering system, how do you know when to service or change the oil, auto start and wheels/handle, which you will buy inevitably. Plus, I definitely would consider a propane option if out in the boonies. Good review. Thanks

Its kind of logic if you think about it. So you have a battery, you use power from the inverter so if you use less power aka gas then what the solar provides thats the answer it depends what you need do u want camping or do you want glamping with a xbox, tv, toasters you get the just. You can get away with cheap solar it all comes down to how much you use and if it can be replaced or maintained before night fall.

I Have a 2024 Silverado 1500. GVWR = 7300, payload = 1700, tow capacity = 13,200. With my truck loaded with "everyday" stuff, a full tank of gas and my wife buckled in the passenger seat the truck weighs 6220 lbs leaving 1080 lbs of available payload. As I research bumper pull RV's I am using the published UVWR and dry tongue weight to calculate the weight distribution percentage of the tongue weight. I thn use that percentage to calculate the tongue weight of the trailer using GVWR. However, many of the trailers I am interested in have cargo capacity of >1500 lbs and GVWR under 7500. All of the trailers I am considering are ~28' or less. I do not plan to tow the trailer with a full fresh water tank and I can't imagine loading the trailer with >1000 lbs unless I load up the trailer with water. Should I continue to use the GVWR to determine the wisdom I use to buy a trailer? at 7500 GWVR, I am bumping up on the max payload of my truck (depending on the weight distribution percentage of that particular model) Your advice would be appreciated!!
@ColoradoCamperman
@ColoradoCamperman Ай бұрын
Personally, I would do my best to make sure I am under my max payload. Whether that means not filling your water tank or getting a different trailer, that is your call. The good news is, you are seriously looking into this. Most people would not do as much research as you have done and would not look into the numbers as much as you have. So kudos to you for that. It sounds like you will make the right decision.
