I dont get why a 10spd gets put behind a 6--71. The rpm drop between 5 and 6 is always big for a detroit. I ran a couple of 671's and their 13 speed was great. Ah well, great vidya anyway.

My Pop was a Cummins/Mack guy. He tolerated the 8v71 but the 6 was just too gutless. Said it wouldn't pull a greasy string out of a sick chickens ass, on a downgrade

Probably responsible for a lot of hearing aids. My uncle had a Terex dozer years ago, Detroit, not sure which specifically but it was a 71 series I think. He wore the large hearing protection set (like the bulky headphones we had in the '70s) whenever he fired up the Terex. A lot of guys comment on their fathers and grandfathers being hard of hearing long before their time from driving 2 stroke Detroits

A little lube will help tremendously. look for high sulfur cutting oil, but rigid thread cutting oil is great. Keeps the blade cool. Used wax on the big vertical bandsaw but cutting oil on my Ellis

What beautiful music !! Wish our LNs had these Detroits but most of them had 3208 Cats or 534 gas engines. I miss those days (1976-1990) Must be nice to come to work with a singing truck awaiting every day.

@bobbyhenderson8603 After gas hit over $1.30 a gallon in early 1980 (very high back then) they decided to slowly get rid of the 534s which averaged maybe 4 mpg in town and 5 on the interstate but by summer it dropped to about $1.05. The engines themselves were trouble free so they held onto some as late as 1984.

Awesome video., I think it was a GMC with a 6-71 Detroit 10 speed with a shifter like that , that I drove . It was a kick in the ass to drive and run through the gears. 👍👍

Great driver but I think he's using the clutch ,at least for some gears. I don't know why you would because that combination of engine and transmission is excellent for clutch less shifts. Why work so much harder than you have to?
