I have osteoarthritis in both hips.First diagnosed 4 years ago.Had another x ray in February,my GP said it was the worst he had seen, cartilage completly gone on both and cysts forming on both,As I was overweight I could not be referred.I have now lost over 2 stone, still waiting for appointment,Have had to go for physio for weeks apparently to strengthen muscle ready for operation,It is down as routine,my GP and physiotherapist at the hospital I will be having it done have both tried to get it down as urgent.Could cry sometimes with the pain.

I had my first one done 5 months ago and I am only 46. It took one appointment with a student physio that got mine sorted. I have been under my rheumatologist for 26 years and my hip ball joints have been eroding into my pelvis. I had extreme pain every single day but I was still walking and driving. I have a really strong pain threshold so I coped because I had done. My rheumatologist called me the next morning and first off apologised to me because he had never picked up on how severe I was. He told me that I was being put on the emergency list and it has been life changing for me. I didn’t even have an mri for mine, just one x-Ray. I have severe osteoarthritis in my hips, spine and knees as I’ve had my issues for my entire life. My surgeon was amazing and got me in so quick and then I had to hug him when I saw him last week. I am now going to skip into the theatre this time. I’ve had well over 40 steroid injections in my lifetime and my last one was 6 days ago. I feel so much better and even my whole attitude has changed. I smile now and don’t cry every day no more. I am hoping to get mine done so quickly but I’ve got to wait at least 5 weeks because of my biologic treatment wears off. That was by far the worst part when all my medication had to stop but I know what to expect now so it won’t be so bad this time. I was also in and out of hospital in less than 2 days which shocked everyone, and I did my exercises and now I’ve got to start doing my exercises again and I can’t wait, but my mile stone was being able to swim last week for the first time in over 7 months so I cannot wait for my next one!!. Bring it on!!. Can I just add that I attend Cannock hospital and they are amazing at what they do for people who are similar to me. Since first going there 26 years ago my life has changed so much for the better. I know all the staff there and don’t even have to give them my name now when I go to the reception desks lol😂. I wish I could give back so much but when I go back for my next biologic treatment I am going to take all of the girls some chocolate who look after me there. Cannock hospital is amazing and I call it my second home now lol x

Thank your channel and this video is so underated. I have been breathing early because I was told you can never breath too early. But it mean i was forcing my rotation through the breath and causing my back to arch and then back legs to drop before the next kick which is even worst as I do a 2 beat. Correcting now but also taking a bit to be more patient, certainly will try your drills.

December 13th I’m getting my right hip replaced and I’m in great pain I can’t function right now sitting standing walking driving are extremely uncomfortable and even laying down hurts. Theirs no blood flow to the ball socket I fell down and the trauma from that caused the bone to die. I’m extremely nervous about this now I’m hoping that this surgery will take the hip pain away. Also I’m alone at home is it difficult to get up and walk around? Dr says I’ll be home the next day. I’m worried about getting around at home but I’ll figure it out. Tnx How are you feeling now and is it hard to get up and around the house?

I disagree on the ankle attachment restricting rotation. Have you actually tried it? Sometimes I feel like i rotate too much with it... Can kick some, but I'm sure the waist type is better for that. But for just pulling? Like my cheap Amazon straps. Also can use them for dryland stroke training too.

This has been a fascinating series of videos and I only wish I had seen it before my operation. I had been suffering from hip pain for about a year and finally got to see a specialist. After an X-ray and an MRI, she recommended a cortisone injection. Since this did not work, we moved on to a hyaluronic injection. This didn't work either and by now I was getting desperate so I asked my wife (who is a nurse at a large university hospital) if she could find me another specialist. He suggested trying stem-cell technology. This involves drawing blood, certrifuging it to extract the platelets and then reinjecting these into the hip joint. Sadly, this did not work either so he suggested a total hip replacement. I spoke to several friends who I knew had had the operation and everybody was very positive so I signed up for it. I was scheduled for the operation in early December of 2023. I had all the usual pre-op tests and was operated on from the side using an epidural as anaesthetic. The surgeon said the operation had been a success and that I had not lost much blood during the process. However, I subsequently developed an internal haemorrhage and my haemoglobin levels dropped from 15 to 7 so I had to have a transfusion of two bags of blood and a course of iron tablets. This, coupled with the fact that I was not used to sleeping on my back, kept me in hospital for a week and so my recovery got off to a slow start. However, I was determined to get moving as quickly as possible and by Christmas had progressed from a walker to two crutches. However, my surgeon said that physiotherapy was not necessary and that I would recover just by walking. I saw him again at the end of January 2024 and he suggested that I drop one of the crutches but still said I did not need physio. By then the pain from the operation had subsided but there was stiffness and weakness in the joint and although I could move around with the help of a crutch, I limped badly when I tried to walk without one. This went on for several months until I spoke to a friend who had had a THR and he said physio was fundamental and recommended a good physio who I started to see in June. Needless to say, things have improved dramatically, and whilst I still have some stiffness and weakness in the joint, I can walk, drive and ride a bicycle more or less OK. I can't help feeling the I was given bad advice by the surgeon on the importance of physiotherapy and would be in a much better place now if I had started physio immediately after the operation.

I had a hip replacement on March 13, after 7 wks, I dislocated twice, 4 days apart. It was horrible!!! My surgeon said he had the ball at the wrong angle so, I then needed a revision which I had May 21st. This has been a horrible experience all the way around. The pain has been brutal and progress, like molasses. They said it would go like this unfortunately. I’ve had a therapist once a week here for 3 weeks. She’s had me doing PT but even though I’m 5-6 weeks post op, my therapy’s more of this two week in progress. The therapist is done now and I’m on my own looking forward to what PT I should continue with and how many reps etc. I’m doing the ones in this video now actually but, I don’t know when to move on exactly?? Depending on my pain level I guess???? Thank you for this video and ANY ADVICE you may have! I really appreciate it!!!!!

How about if I try to put my arm in the water so that it creates a thousand toroidal vortices as though it were a stream tube. What then if I stretch those toroidal vortices laterally creaating first one leading edge vortex and then shear away to another? Would that create that hole in the water?

I think the idea that a revision ( 2nd replacement) of a hip is just a 3 month interruption is misguided. Revisions require longer prosthetics which tend to be less stable long term, so at that stage running is very unlikely as are other sporting activities, so management of a replaced hip to extend its life are important.

Hi Coach. I like lapswimming. I swim 1 km in about 28-30 minutes. Why can’t I get faster? Is it mostly technique that limits me or muscle power that affects more do you think based on your experience?
