And also, let's be honest once more. Aussie natives aren't the greatest fish to fish for

Whilst carp aren't good. Humans are damaging the waterways 100x more. Carp probably do 1% of the damage, but it's an easy scapegoat. And let's be honest, until we stop a certain religion releasing 1000s of non native fish as part of their beliefs and the upcoming Tilapia invasion will make carp look good...

Agree that carp are a minor problem compared to a lot of others our waterways face. We do have a lot of problems!

hey mate sorry for the unrelated question but I have been looking at getting a hobie kayak and just wanted to pick your brains about how you have found yours treating you since getting it?

Hey mate, thanks for watching! The hobie's been great since I got it. Given it's a smaller version, it's perfect for my preferred methods of fishing (river and shallow ocean). Handles well, it's light and easy to load and pretty zippy. I will be upgrading the rudder at some point though - not sold on the current one. In short, I'm happy with it cause it fits my needs, and I was able to find a good deal for it so I didn't break the bank. Hope this helps!

How do you find the short kayak and how tall are you? Curious if the tarpon 100 would be stable enough for the sound
@dfjmadventures
@dfjmadventures Ай бұрын
@nathanaeln Hey mate, I fit comfortably in the Tarpon and I'm 6'3" and 100+ kg. It's not as wide or stable as my other kayaks so I wouldn't take it out too far or on windy/swelly days without outriggers. It's quite speedy and awesome for river fishing, but I really only take it out on the ocean if conditions are good and I'm staying shallow (squidding) - I have my Hobie for the other stuff. Hope this helps.

@@dfjmadventures how bigs the swell or bad is the wind for you to not take it out?
@dfjmadventures

@nathanaeln Anything over 10 knots I don't take the Tarpon. Like I said, I take the Hobie 9 times out of 10 if I'm fishing in the ocean. I use the Tarpon in the river 👍

I'm willing to give it a try. At my wit's end with the swan. I see pictures of people catching things in the Swan but I refuse to believe there are actually fish here. I can't use soft plastics because blowfish shred them instantly. I can't use bait because blowfish....I use hardbody lures and get nothing. It's exasperating.
@dfjmadventures
@dfjmadventures Ай бұрын
Totally understand mate - it can be frustrating at times, especially when you can't go out during ideal hours when blowies are inactive. I have more than my fair share of donut sessions too. There are certainly less (none in some areas) up the Canning, but it can be difficult. Prawn baits should entice more than a few though. Good luck!

Use small mussels if you can get them. Slide the hook in through the gap in the shell (good vid on here,how to). Bream,pinkies etc will smash straight through the shell while the blowies can't.
