All of the problems you have with the V are fixed in the much better IX... Good interview but a bit dull on the driving shot front. I've never seen an Evo driven so much off boost and to the speed limit 😂

Putting the gas mileage as a con in a sports car is like complaining about how low a sports car is…..comes with the territory.

I just bought one with 200,000 miles on it. Still runs like a top..... For now. Just replacing a few hoses and some sensors. Still a lot of fun. We"ll see if this turns into a triumph or a money pit. Still love the car though. She is not perfect. But I only bought it for the fun

Hi, do you still have this car? How do you rate them? I'm looking at a 2.2 because it meets emissions in London. The 2.8 I'd have to pay £12.50 to go into London which is about 15 dollars at a guess so not really an option.

Hello from Alberta, Canada. Great vid sir… I’d take anyone of em, but I do fancy the Evo 6 or 8. I do have a Evo X , MR P and love it 👍. Bought it brand new in 2009, Done a fair of modding /tuning. Burnt a valve in cylinder 3 and it sat for 10 years, rebuilt it last year, and it’s been great ever since… Only 66,000 km on it. Evos are such great platforms.

Anything specific I should look out for when shopping for a 4 or 5? I'm going to buy one from the auction, so it will be sight unseen with the exception of having someone do an inspection and take photos for me.

Congrats on your Evo. A couple of corrections though... US got evo 8,9,10 only. All parts are not interchangeable between 4-9. Many parts are though. No such thing as an Evo 5 Tommi Makinen Edition. TME was a Evo 6.5. Those evo 9 Recaros are very nice although I do like the e5 seats a lot too. The Evo 7 valve cover is nice! And I see its got an Evo 6 rear wing and Evo 6.5 TME front bar. Its had some mods hey? Was it a track car with the tow hook up top? You talk to camera very well. I'll go now and check your other videos. Keep the updates coming! and visit my channel :)

The intake manifold looks like a pain in the butt to remove, but once you do it, you realize it not that bad. I've removed it at least even times no to do waterpump installs and carbon cleanings. I can remove it in less than an hour easily.

As another owner of a high mileage MK7 GTI. I agree with most of the things you said in this video. My GTI is big turbo and makes over 500whp on E85. It has just over 141K miles and has been solid. Completely stock motor as well. If you maintain these cars and don’t cheap out mods and maintenance, they will last a long time. One thing I did disagree on is the manual transmission being a “well designed” transmission. Anyone who thinks VW makes a good manual, hasn’t driven an a car with an actually good manual (Honda S2000, Civic Type R, BMW M3, Porsche 911). The VW manual has zero feel and is too assisted. I also wouldn’t call a manual that has a clutch so weak, it can barely hold stock power as “well designed”. It’s one of the main reasons I went for the DSG. VW makes a mediocre manual but a phenomenal DSG. As previously stated, my car makes over 500whp and the DSG handles it just fine. A manual GTI would need significant upgrades to handle that power lever. Also as a previous manual transmission owner. I find the DSG just as engaging, albeit in different way.
@downshiftauto32611 ай бұрын
I appreciate the feedback! If I could go back I would tweak what I said to one of the good manual transmissions available today. I now own a 1998 Mitsubishi Evo and the car has a 5-speed manual thats completely different then most other cars and completely un-assisted. Gearing is short, knotchy, but very precise. One thing I always loved about the VW is its buttery-smooth. May need supporting upgrades as you reach 400+, but out of the box its pretty solid. 1000% agree on the stock clutch being weak. It does slip as soon as you mention the word "tune"
@SarcasticComments2310 ай бұрын
I sold my DSG for a manual cause I wanted more driver engagement I was stage two with the DSG but I’m stage one with a manual and I just bit the bullet and paid the $1,200 for an upgraded clutch and it’s done me great. I’m at 155,000 miles right now and no problems. Glad I made the change to a manual transmission and would never go back.
