I have nothing but love for Puerto Rico and Puerto Ricans. My friends in Puerto Rico and in New York City, Washington, DC have been the most kind, generous and lively of people. For example, in 1994 my very first day that I went to Puerto Rico, I was staying with a friend in Santurce. I wanted to help out by getting some groceries. While in Walgreen's, I asked in Spanish, to someone in the checkout line where the best market or supermarket was nearby. This woman and her daughter DROVE me in her car to the nearest a few blocks away, waited til I checked out and then drove me back to my friends place! Now, this was many years ago. I believe that the Puerto Ricans must still be this way. Friendly, proud of their country and myriad of cultures, in spite of the nasty treatment by some of us North Americans. Que viva Puerto Rico!

Thanks, this helped me learn alot about the rich history of Puerto Rico, I feel like there isn't enough media out there that tells you about the history but also immerses you in it where you get to see the people hear the people hear their values out of their own mouths. The history of the Taino people, West Africans, Liberos, Spanish historical significance is so complex the way it all melds together to make this sort of unified people is very special. The significance of the different music genres like Bomba and learning more in depth about salsa has been impactful. How music helps to unify and bridge gaps of communcation. Thanks for sharing Phonic Earth and I hope this gets more views this is well produced and real.

interesting... at 9:42 they talk about the origins of a person being musical and baby talk and how deerhoof can kind of feel that way. Just the other day I watched a Needle Drop review of Deerhoof and they described it as children's music for adults.

We Perfecsize Salsa in Puerto Rico not in Cuba and brought it to the world in a deferent style .Salsa and Cuban music is totally deferent. Puerto Rico put more ingredients into salsa .So remember salsa is Puerto Rico. 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯

It's both but people don't like to give credit to Puerto Ricans. Salsa as we know today around the world is because of Puerto Ricans. Before Salsa, Cubans were doing son Cubano y Montuno. Which was slow and didn't have that spice that Puerto Rican put into Salsa.
