Hello again, ha ha salted runner beans , we done that about 8 years ago and yes they store very very well, right up to Christmas, it has to be in a glass jar (or so we was told by a lady down our old road ) as salt can do nasty things to glazed jars or metal over time . We give them a thorough rinsing but they tasted quite salty but still very fine to eat. we made about 6 large jars and wrapped them in brown paper to keep the light out, the same as they would have done in the olden days. Such wonderful stories and memories, especially the logs crackling loud. ha ha, horse meat scandal, ours was not the first then !. Ahhhh thanks so so much for this , i hope your both have a lovely wonderful Christmas, with more new fond memories made. Your memory is fantastic, good health, take good care. PS. my step nan, 93 has just had her first part of the covid jab. i speak to her often. she now lives in Milton Keynes and hates it but is close to one of her sons there. she is a true Londoner !

Hello, thanks for putting this up, hair looking good ! very interesting, my dad is 10 years younger, he also came from London during the war years ( cumming street, Islington) and talks of similar situation when his parents said he is coming home where he will be safe, i will have to ask him where he was evacuated to. My step nan is 93 (step mums side) who also came from east London during the war. im off to part 2, thanks again !

Can you do me a favour, ask that mirror who's the fairest to see if i come up ? it could be me because my hair is the fairest shade of grey now. Nice work on the duvet, looking nice, make do and mend comes out better than the shops with less cost ! that's what we all like ! hope you have had a good weekend, take care and keep well.

I asked the mirror "Mirror, mirror on the wall, is Gary the fairest of them all?" It replied, "No, no! Gary is not fair, he has salt and pepper hair. But how to live life the right way, he's THE man each and every day".

Hello, im with you on all this apart from beer ! We have bats living in our loft, we love them being there, yes without the bats we would be eaten alive of an evening by the gnats, i read they can eat thousands per night ! every dusk they come out and fly in circles around the house (warmer months) . we think we have roughly have 20 to 30 of them but have not been in the loft for about 3 years now. we dont want to disturb them. Being bored baffles me ! i enjoyed that, thanks Dilly take care

Hi, I've come to your channel from 'Escaping the Matrix'. Your book is a GREAT idea! Was talking about a book like this with my daughter the other day. Do you remember the housekeeping book you could buy from the milkman. They were like the type of thing you are describing..I've been trying to find some. Anyway GOOD LUCK with the vlog. I shall subscribe! :)

Welcome Luise Ellen, thanks for subscribing. I had a housekeeping book from my milkman when I was about 17, but mine was mostly recipes. I wonder what I did with it? lol My dream is to live a life not dissimilar to Gary's where I can put my knowledge into practice and be mistress of my own destiny, only answerable to the weather and nature. Hopefully when I make this happen I can vlog about that too. Take care.

Hello Dilly and Mum, Thanks so so much for this, very very interesting, i did hear ( i may be wrong) that the ministry of food saw grain was more important for bread making and other human consumption than to feed chickens on the farms thus eggs being more scarce. I work in ounces here, i have an old set of scales with weights, then have a conversion chart for the modern grams, ha ha i love the old ways. ICE ON THE INSIDE of the house ! wow !. I never peel my homegrown carrots or potatoes, unless the potatoes have potato scab. i agree Dilly never waste a single scrap of food. i even put a little vinegar in the bottom of sauce bottles to get the last out. Sorry i missed this but thanks for the reminder, thankyou for taking the time for this, im going to put a link to this on my channel to take people to your channel and this video as i feel its very interesting for smallholding life . Take good care and stay safe

Hello Dilly, i often dream of owning a little island and setting up a smallholding community of kind people with different trades on it to get away from the bum holes of society, ha ha its never going to happen ! but its a nice dream. Sorry to hear of all this agro. The sheeple drive me mad ! Raised beds is what i like as well and as i get older i will raise them higher as not to bed down as far. Liam the robot seems to be appearing in many comments on others channels as well. thanks and take care

Yes Gary, I, like my father before me, dream of the same sort of little island. It seems we are surrounded by arseholes and imbeciles. I got out of the NHS for that reason, but it didn't work! Agree with you about the raised beds and getting older! Also I seem to be getting quite a few bots which I have to ignore (but I still think it's rude even though I know it's a bot!!!) Hope the family is well. Btw message on your fb page for you. Take care

Hello, thanks very much ladies for this, very interesting stories and views, most defiantly would love to hear more, especially about war time food, the favorite and worse foods, also any frugal tips in the kitchen. just basically food stories. I lost my mum to cancer when i was 5 years old and my Nan come to look after us for 5 years, i remember her cooking very well, she made the best corned beef and onion pie ! i once asked her how she made the pies edge lovely and crinkly, she said " i take me teeth out and press the edge" im glad that soon after she came clean and told me a fork ! I also remember how she used to polish everything regularly, the house brass, and always the front door step red quarry tiles, house coat and hair net on most of the time ! thanks again for a great video, take good care.

Hello, you do make me chuckle ! yep same here no time to get bored, i also think ive put on a few pounds, but that would probably be the extra home-brew wine and larger of an evening to help me wind down after being so busy. Im also getting tired of the greed of people trying to cash in on the virus by putting up prices, a very sick thing to do. Ha ha i totally agree about the brick ! thanks Dilly ( is that the correct spelling ? ) Stay safe yous two, take care

Hello, glad your well. exactly, we are all equal in life and special, so special that there is only one copy of us with our own unique thoughts in the whole entire blinking universe ! but we are aloud to look down upon the ass holes in life who dont care for others ! another "A" word !!!!, ha ha. Anchovies ! the only thing that smells worse than an anchovies is an anchovies butt ! thanks for the vid, it went down well with my morning cuppa. have a great week and stay safe yous two.

Hello again, wow very productive space, yes you dont need a big garden and you have proved that indeed , in my old house we had a rotary washing line that got in our way as our garden was small but packed with veg, well someone dumped some scaffold poles near by, so i got them and put them in the ground and with a pulley fitted, the washing went high up out the way, there was problems though, my tatty undies were on show to neighbours and when it was windy we lost cloths !!! but we grew a little extra. happy days ! There are also people on youtube who just grow veg on their balconies here is one person i watch who lives in Puerto Rico, she is also lucky enough to have a chicken that comes to visit her and lays the odd egg in plant pots ! the link is here ---- kzbin.info/door/lvBO_3mAsjXRWh151DtSvQ . Happy growing, stay safe and take care (by the way being extra cautious and careful with this current situation can only be a good thing its not over the top we do the same here)
