Can I skip Chris Clearmont and Marc Silvestri's X-Men Volume 1 and move on to The Extinction Agenda and Volume 2?
@comicbelief
@comicbelief 2 күн бұрын
@@richardkujo I don’t know this collection, but between Inferno and the Extinction Agenda, the team scatters as members one by one go through the siege perilous… some like Storm and Psylocke go through bigger changes than others… by Extinction Agenda the team is getting itself back together… I wouldn’t call these prior issues a must-read. There will be a number of dangling plot lines that might feel confusing going into the big event… that’s even more true if you haven’t read New Mutants or X-Factor…. but nothing too overwhelming. The Extinction Agenda was actually the first X-men story I ever read. And it envolves dozens of characters I knew little about, and still I enjoyed it thoroughly.

@ Let’s see: Uncanny X-Men #235-237 (introduces Genosha), #256-258 (updates Psylocke - first Jim Lee on the title), #265-266 (introduces Gambit, Storm deages) X-Factor #1 (introduces the team and Cameron Hodge - follows events from Avengers #263 and Fantastic Four #286), #21-23 (centered on Hodge) Marvel Graphic Novel #4 (introduces New Mutants) New Mutants #17-21 (Warlock joins the team) #87-94 (introduces Cable) Like I said, I wouldn’t call this essential reading. You can do without these issues. But they do provide the background to the Extinction Agenda

Man I tried to like X-Factor but even after the Simons came they only had some good stuff like the Mutant Massacre arc which was really fun and some issues here and there even Fall of the Mutants I didn't like that much despite its importance but I thank Louis for getting the team out of the bad idea that they are a team that claims to be against the Mutants to save them. Most likely the last issues I will read for them will be from Omnibus Inferno event otherwise I will trust to read the issues you put in the video

@@therobloxmonkey6704 Some are iconic by familiarity, as with most #1 issues and first appearances. Some are done by great artists that rarely make a bad cover, like Alex Ross. The first Wolverine series by Chris Clearmont and Frank Miller was boring. I didn't like the art, even though I liked Frank Miller's art in Daredevil, and the same goes for the story. I like what happened in it and its sequels to Wolverine and later the team, but it didn't live up to my expectations. I prefer the Kitty and Wolverine series over it, or the rest of the X-Men stories before it. I hope the long Wolverine series that follows it is better.

@@richardkujo Might be a matter of taste, might be that repetition has diminished what was once groundbreaking. By today’s standards, Claremont is a verbose, narration-heavy writer. I really like the first series. I enjoy the one with Kitty Pryde but not the artwork so much. The monthly series is ok. It took a while to find its footing, went through a lot of writers… because it was trying to keep Logan apart from the other X-Men and give him his own cast of characters, it often feels like something is missing

@richardkujo 27 күн бұрын
@@comicbelief Maybe but I love noir and masho stories but this one felt weird maybe it would have been better if it was longer? For some reason despite Chris's love of combining multiple genres in his stories he didn't think of having Wolverine face someone who uses a sword that can kill him like a soul sword or something like that the villain in Kitty and Wolverine was more of a threat +I hope it's an enjoyable series. I heard that Wolverine's Ren by Chris Claremont is a pulpy.

I grew up in the 1960s and I could read by 1964. Even with Marvel slowly stealing me away from DC, Legion of Super Heroes was my favorite comic as they were kids like me. I was angry when they were booted out of Adventure and overjoyed when they got their own book. I was a faithful reader until Giffen took over. While he later improved a lot, I couldn't take his art or writing at the time. Then DC started doing the various Crisis books and it wasn't my Legion that came back. I didn't really like anything that came after until the Superman and Legion reunion. But after that it was back to Crap again. Not my Legion.
