I’ve never been to Belize but would love to go. I spent 6 yrs in the Dominican Republic and it sounds very similar. It was a big adjustment at first but you either adjust or you leave. I actually found it a huge adjustment to move back to my native Canada after 6 yrs in the DR. I much prefer my life in the DR over Canada. One of the reasons I would like to go to Belize though is because I don’t need to be fluent in Spanish. Hopefully one of these days I will get there!

Watching your first couple videos I was curious as to where you got your very American sounding accent. You answered that for me because you went to college in the states. First, let me say you are very pretty. I really appreciate your succinct explanation of what to expect in Belize. I am a retired single man looking to : 1) Exit the USA before trump totally tanks it (Hitler wannabe) 2)Move to a more relaxed environment. 3) Stretch my Social Security check and live more frugally. You seem really nice and I’d appreciate it if you could recommend a professional who is familiar with ex pats from the United States and is a relocation specialist who could help me both find a decent property (one that is built to survive hurricanes) and hopefully find me where I can park my car up off the ground floor to hopefully save it from flooding. I am thinking about shipping my car to Belize so that I have it with me it’s an older Volvo but it is an extremely.. good condition I’ve baby it since I bought it new. The first Community I’m looking at is Placencia. it is not important to me that I live right on the beach. I’m fine two or three rows back and even further if it makes me safer from hurricanes. I would like access to a pool and I would like my home to be fully air-conditioned with strong Internet service. I seriously doubt if I will move all my furniture there so I’ll probably be buying furniture locally. I willbe traveling with my clothes and my multiple guitars and amps ( my hobbies - I’m really bad and trying to learn) so a home with good insulation would make my neighbors much happier than if it doesn’t have good insulation. Hopefully there’s I do have one personal defense handgun but seriously doubt if it would be needed there a .good guitar teacher on the island. Being an American I do own several pistols all but one are 22 caliber. My one exception to the 22 lr handguns that I own one personal defense 9 mm handgun. I don’t know what the laws are for expats to own firearms. I hope you have shooting ranges located somewhere because all I do is target shoot(hobby target shooting). I also hope to live reasonably close to a moderately priced newer larger supermarket… I understand that fruits and vegetables are pretty reasonable, I’m hoping that beef and pork aren’t too outrageously priced. I’m sure I will adapt to the local cuisine although I do not eat seafood. If you have time I would appreciate your thoughts as to what I’ve said here. BTW I’m 70 years old, single and hope to find a decent two bedroom an accommodation one bedroom for …me, one for the guitars. I’d appreciate any advice that you might offer to me and in advance thanks much!

Belize City was the only place in the world I felt unsafe in broad daylight. Spent a lot of time in Belize years ago and all the local expats were leaving because of high crime, some of it violent. The government wasn't effective keeping offenders in jail.
