The .22 WRF/.22 Remington Special along with it's evolution to .22 Magnum represents a darned useful ballistic range for people that really do take slightly heavier small game and varmints. My biggest gripe is the cost of the ammo. In regards to the .22 Magnum, it was said it was a hunter's cartridge. I agree. Too expensive to be a plinkers favorite.

For the most part, 22 WRF will chamber and fire safely (it's in a SAAMI gray area on interchange) but accuracy is definitely not guaranteed. The bigger problem is finding 22 WRF, so it seems a waste to fire it from a 22 WMR.

What is wrong with a tumbling bullet at 3 yards in a self defense situation. If it bothers you that much, then shoot 22 mag ammo made for 2 inch short barrels. (Speer Gold Dot 22Maag 40Grain, GDHP-SB. Quit using rifle ammo in a 2 inch pistol barrel.

Great comparison. I could be wrong but my understanding is the current loading of the WRF is indeed the same diameter as the WMR. I have, in fact, used WRF out of my 22WMR revolver as well as bolt action rifle. It has a slightly quiter report using the WRF. I'll have to measure some of those bullets to confirm. Thanks for the video.

Excellent video,as always. Never heard of the WRF, but I was intrigued by the case difference between the 22LR and the 22 WMR, especially since a different cylinder is required (for a Heritage Rough Rider, for example) yet the bullet would be fired through the same barrel.

It really makes manufacturing a lot simpler when the bore/rifling can be the same for both rounds (22lr/22wmr) the only real difference is the chamber. Thanks for watching Sam!

If it's chambered for 22WMR, there is no problem. Using 22WRF could cause some pressure spikes because the actual bullet is a tiny bit bigger. Materials of modern firearms are much stronger than some of those old antiques though. Thanks for watching!

Yes, it was also known as the .22 Remington Special. I'm not sure why so many manufacturers didn't like giving Winchester credit for developing a particular round. The 44-40 was so called because Colt, and others, didn't want to engrave 44WCF on their firearms. 38-40, 32-20, 30-30, 25-20...etc. were all Winchester developed. Thanks for watching!

When I was a teen (1970's). I would see the 1903 Winchester WRF for sale pretty cheap. My Dad had a model 63 Winchester bought in 1948 which looked similar. Dad would say "if you buy one, good luck getting shells for it". I wish I'd bought one back then but didn't. I did buy a 22 magnum Savage 4M 1978 without him knowing though. Still got it.
