My first rifle, my dad bought me one in 1961. It had a peep sight on it. Really accurate, like a dumbell, I gave it to a young'un around 1975

You may have made that young'un really happy! I just hope he was responsible with it. You'll probably never get that particular one back, but there are still a lot of them out there. Thanks for watching!

I have a Remington 510 Targetmaster smooth bore version. Great condition. Perfect pest control tool for small critters in my barn with .22 long rifle bird shot loads. What strikes me is the 'old school' build; no plastic parts except for the butt plate.

Most things built back then were made to last a long time. When they figured out the concept of "planned obsolescence" it started going down hill. Thanks for watching!

I once had a Remington .22 bolt action with the tubular mag. Long skinny barrel etc. It was a 500 series model but I forget which. I never thought of it as a "target" rifle just because of what it was but I mounted a pretty good scope on it and found it to be a real tack driver, better than my .22 autos in that respect. Of course that was in my tradin days so it went the way of many fine rifles only to leave regrets later on. Especially painful pangs at today's prices.

I have one with the removable magazine. 6(flush) and 10 round. Pretty long rifled barrel. The "R" mags are tricky to find and expensive. I was told by a vendor that Remington had 1 die for the magazines and it was a limited production run as soon as it wore out. Great accurate rifle. 510 score master? The production stamp was either 1939 or 1942 is my best guess.

I have my dads model 510 that he got for his 13th birthday which was in 1947. It’s extremely accurate. Most of the blueing is worn away. Sadly the stock was cracked and a piece of it is missing which was the small area near the safety. I’ve only seen one other one years ago in a pawn shop which was a smooth bore and I was going to purchase it just for the stock. But it sold before I returned with the money.

Being a 1947 model myself, I remember these well. Lots of Boy Scout troops used these for training. Why can't mfgs do these simple designs today?
@SmallCaliberArmsReview

Usually because of lawyers. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the design, I'm just saying lawyers usually screw things up. Seems like a great rifle for beginners. Thanks for watching!

Good video, just curious as to why they would make a smooth bore version of that rifle?
@SmallCaliberArmsReview
@SmallCaliberArmsReview Ай бұрын
Believe it or not one version was called the "Skeetrap"! I cant imagine trying to shoot skeet or trap with a .22! I can't even do it well with a 12 gauge! One was called the "Routledge Bore" and the other was just called a "smooth bore", sort of a "garden gun". Henry makes a .22 smooth bore today they call a garden gun. Made for the .22lr shot shells. Varmint/pest control. Thanks for watching!
