Jayne, you've gotta great catalogue of Classic stuff. Now you're adding some of the best originals from the early years of ITV. And come to think of it, next year is ITV's 70th anniversary year.

Great to hear from you Barry hope you are Ok xx I remember the first advert for tooth paste and one of the first movies to be screened 'Singing in the Rain' on a 12" KB. I avoided the serious quiz shows... too much hard work to think about the answers! Used to like 'Take the Money or Open the Box' - Take Your Pick though, with Michael Miles and an organist. What always brings back the memories for me are the jingles and theme tunes. All the presenters spoke really well and they were generally brilliant. Keep in touch, much love xxx

That's great stuff Jayne. Even including the very first commercial from ITV's first night on air, 22.09.1955. I've got some of these on DVD as well.

I have a feeling that Tim and his researchers have got the betting term "pony" wrong. As I understand it, a "pony" is £25 whereas £100 is a "ton".

Seth MacFarlane singing was a bit of surprise, but given how many show-tunes and big band numbers are sprinkled through his various works, I'd say he's a fan as much as we are.

Thanks to Jayne Ann Strut, Ken Russel the director. This was made (1968) in black-and-white television - 35 mm film. Made for BBC’s Omnibus series first broadcast September 1968. It portrays, the last years of Frederick Delius‘s life, during which time Eric Fenby came to live with the composer and his wife, Jelka: Fenby served as Delius amanuensis. The title is borrowed from Delius‘s tone poem, a Song of Summer, which is heard along with other Delius works on the films soundtrack The director, Ken Russell said this was his best film and he would not change a scene. . .

Buses today are a right shambles, most of the buses shouldn’t be on the road, as unfit machanicly, many drivers are scruffy, along with the buses they drive, also they provided a service, not for the passengers, but for themselves, by pulling over to regulate the service. I could mention Thatcher here, as she had something to do with breaking up monopolies, and encouraging competition.

I heard this in my youth on our local classical station. The first time I just heard the last 2 minutes, and the station didnt identify it. Heard it a couple of years later and the same thing. No ID. It infuriated me for decades. Finally heard it tonight, 38 years later. I pulled the car over and scrambled for my phone, barely making it before the piece was over. The app actually recycled 3 times, then finally came up with an answer. Thank you music gods for giving me a title. Vaughn Williams. Should have known, I always described it in conversations as having a very Theme of Thomas Tallis feel. It had been misidentified to me as The Lark Ascending by many people in the past. Mystery solved.

The introduction above says "Strachey scored another success in 1940 (this time with Eric Maschwitz and Manning Sherwin) with the song 'A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square'. " I think this is a mistake. I can't find any evidence that Jack Strachey was involved in writing that song.
