To commemorate the eightieth anniversary of D-Day, and the great sacrifice made by British forces and their Allies on June 6th 1944, the success of which marked the beginning of the end of the Second World War.
The sentimental nature of this song resounded deeply with those brave souls sent to liberate France, and effectively the rest of Western Europe, and from which was laid the foundations of the Allied victory on the Western Front.

During 1944 this was one of the most popular songs -
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true
Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh, why can't I?
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh, why can't I?
If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?
The sentimental nature of this song resounded deeply with those brave souls sent to liberate France, and effectively the rest of Western Europe, and from which was laid the foundations of the Allied victory on the Western Front.
