Love this view of the deep. what is that fish at Min 1:18?
@OceanNetworksCanadaАй бұрын
That fish is an eel pout! The seals were not as interested in them for dinner, they prefered a sablefish feast.

Wow. Maybe instead of the music you could play the sonar acoustic file???
@OceanNetworksCanadaАй бұрын
Hello! Unfortunately, the recorded seal sound sequences were quite short and too low of a frequency to be incorporated into this video.
@TimMenaiАй бұрын
The title is confusing to me. Are you saying the seal is using the sonar observatory location to hunt for food, or that the seal itself is using a form of sonar/bioacoustics to find prey?

This is almost certainly SQS-510 sonar from a Halifax-class frigate. CFB Esquimalt, the main Pacific Fleet base, is right down the bay from there.

if you experience these sounds when you are diving underwater, it can literally melt your brain because it emits 235 decibels of sound… even just 200 decibels can rupture your lungs and eardrums… 210 decibels can first make your brain hemorrhage and slowly turn to mush… any of this can happen even if you are many miles away from the active sonar because sounds travel better underground. if you want to learn more about this, please check out the video titled “the last sound you hear” by MR SLAV.

Thanks fir this. I'm wondering if you have any Wave Height vs Time model visualizations for the lower mainland or BC coast, similar to the videos produced by Washington State DNR, such as "Tsunami wave simulation for Washington State"?

Transmitting multiple pings including one FMCW (frequency modulated continuous wave) and another CW with a relatively higher frequency. The faint fades in the tail of both FMCW and CW are the effects of reverberation (ocean is like a box so the reflection from surface and/or seabed are called reverberation that is how it differs from echo!), this tail fades away (after couple of reflection, reflecting again and again and the acoustic energy is absorbed) by time. I've observed a third signal, notably higher in frequency compared to these two. It does not have harmonics as these two FMCW and CW have harmonics (look at the frequency range between 6-7 kHz). That leads me to believe this third signal is an echo reflected from a moving object, the Doppler shift, suggesting the object is moving toward the transmitter.
