"Tsunami, 11th Relative" serves as a prime example of how collaboration between Indigenous knowledge and science can better prepare communities for future challenges.
Tsunami 11th Relative stems from the Northwest Vancouver Island Tsunami Risk Project, a collaborative partnership involving Strathcona Regional District, Ocean Networks Canada, five First Nations, four municipalities, two regional districts and private and provincial stakeholders. The Indigenous communities within the study area include the Ka:’yu:’k’t’h’/Che:k:tles7et’h’ First Nations, Nuchatlaht First Nation, Ehattesaht/Chinehkint First Nations, Quatsino First Nations, and Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nations.
